Default KLOS GC Mini - Thumbs Up

Am on my first vacation with the GC Mini and am pretty pleased. Decided to swallow hard and pay the extra $$ to go from the standard travel size to the GC and I'm really glad I did. This thing is capable of putting out a substantial bottom end and has a very credible and pleasing acoustic sound overall - right in the ballpark of Taylor GS Mini but with a real guitar scale of 24.9 - can handle light and even medium strumming nicely. Could play for a whole evening and not really be missing my wood acoustics too badly. I got the K&K pickup and threw in a Roland micro cube and a cheap wireless for good measure, and now the "practice while I'm away" guitar is also the "bbq entertainment" guitar. Hats off to the people at KLOS. They've done their homework.

Nice to see some Klos love here - I see that they’ve recently introduced a CF mandolin to add to an already quite impressive range of options.

Thanks for posting. I've been interested in the GC Mini. I'll be stopping in at Klos to try one in a couple months when we make a trip to Utah to see the National Parks. My only reservation is the narrow nut. I'm hoping there might be room to expand the string spacing a bit with a new nut. What's your opinion on the assembly/disassembly process and the travel pack?

I'm very interested in seeing how the new Klos sound as well.

I have a travel and dreadnaught and the sounds have not been full enough for my tastes.

Did you get the up charged soundboard? It appears from some of the Klos comments that may have a "more woody" tone.

the gig bag is not one i would buy as a gig bag, but it is purpose built for transporting this guitar in its unassembled form and works well for that. assembly is easy and works as advertised. it does seem that you can put the neck on imperfectly if you’re careless, but it’s very straight forward if you pay attention. not sure about how many cycles of assembly/disassembly before some kinda wear and tear issue could creep in, but i don’t have any reason to expect less than many years of performance if used carefully. i also will only take apart when flying, so really a likely non-issue

doubt this would best a dreadnought, tho i don’t know relatively how the two are voiced… i did not go for the deluxe wood stimulated grain top, already a very expensive travel guitar w addition of k&k and small amp, but i will say it has a very pleasant credible acoustic sound that even many guitarists would not immediately identify as not wood. don’t feel i’m missing anything while i’m playing

To be clear Klos calls that instrument a dreadnaught I sure wouldn't. It has a rough dreadnaught shape but it is definitely not a full dreadnaught size and particularly it is shallower. They claim 4.3" depth but in actually it barely reaches that at the end pin with the neck end just over 3". Also the lower bout is 15".

Also the gc mini is a much newer design and I would assume they have taken their learnings to apply to it. There are a lot of things I like about my current Klos and they got right which is why I am hoping they have improved in some areas on yours on areas where the older designs are weaker.
