congratulations on your retirement. retirement for me has been bitter sweet. Love not being responsible to anyone, but knowing I'm in the last stages of my life brings a lot of reflection and what ifs.
We just downsized our home last week from 10 acres in the country to sharing a yard with neighbors in a subdivision. Going to take some getting used to. Definitely learning what contractor grade really means. I thought I was finished with working on a house all the time, now I get to upgrade from contractor cheapness. Who knew my house built in the mid seventies was a better built house than my new 10 year old house. But life is good, again congratulations to you.

Todd, I wish you the very best! You’ve been preparing for this next period of your life for a long while. You’ve endured a lot along the way, with your ultimate challenge and greatest success of having given your parents the gift of being the best son you could be. You have wonderful plans some of which you’ve shared here. You’re going to be fine.
My wife and I retired 12 years ago. The time has really flown by. I quite enjoyed my career, but left without problem or regret. Same for my wife. Enjoying our many activities, loving our home and family who are all nearby, and very manageable volunteerism have been very fulfilling and will continue to be. Tomorrow, we’re heading out to Barbados for a month with our sons/dils/g-kids. Life is great! Live it up!!!

After spending most of my 50's living with and taking care of my parents, I just didn't want to work away another decade of my life. My fitness level is 5-10% down from what it was at my peak in my 30's and I still have lots of time left hopefully - so I'm going to start living again while I still can! Thanks for all the kind comments folks!!

Congrats! How old are you, if you don’t mind me asking? People retire young; people retire late. I’ll be 57 this year and can’t wait to retire. But I’ve got a kid heading to college next year and another 3 years away from college. Guess that’s not happening anytime soon…

Congrats. It’s a big step, but a good one. It’s about 6 years for me, and I’m finding it to be a beautiful thing. I hope you will, too.

Through the Marketplace. You claim your SS, interest income etc and get a quote. Pretty simple really.

Todd, we have talked about a similar course we both have traveled. It's time to turn the page. I wish you the best!
