Default Maton SRS808 vs Cole Clark Angel vs ???

I'm looking to upgrade my guitar to an all-solid guitar, and being based in Australia, I'm currently looking at the Maton SRS808 and the Cole Clark Angel (probably series 1) due to their bang-for-buck relative to imported brands.

I play mostly acoustically (and I'm more a strummer than a fingerpicker), but I would like to start recording so a good sounding pickup is beneficial.

Most older criticisms I've read about Matons and Cole Clarks are around the acoustic sound, while the pickups seem to be widely praised. I have however read some good things about newer CC's and the Maton SRS808 in particular.

Obviously I plan to play an example of each before I buy, but I'd like to know if anyone has compared the two recently, or if there's another make/model that I'm missing that might be a better choice?

Welcome to the AGF.
You might like to consider the Maton SRS70J jumbo.
That larger body should make a great strummer.
You can find them new under $2000.

Here's a link with plenty more information, https://www.acousticcentre.com.au/pr...coustic-guitar

Thanks for the response Brucebubs! I probably should've mentioned that I don't need something with a tonne of volume as I'm only really playing by myself at home, which is why I'm leaning a bit more towards the smaller bodied 808 or Angel series over the dreads and Jumbos.

Nonetheless, I'll see if I can give one a try and see if it works.

I second Bruce's recommendation. Sometimes having a bigger guitar is not necessarily about the volume. It is for the fullness of tone, a different equalisation of bass vs trebles etc.

While I am not a fan of 808's (for their acoustic qualities) I prefer their pickup. To me the Angels are more pleasing acoustically (still not my cup of tea) but for all the versatility of their pickup(s), in an A/B I'll take the Maton.
It's fair to acknowledge my bias for larger guitars when giving my opinion of 808's and Angels.

Haven't played one or even seen one but I'm super impressed with the specs for the new Washburn RSG200SWVSK.
-Torrefied top
-Rosewood back and sides
-1 3/4" nut
-Graph Tech ratio tuners
-bone nut and saddle
-15 1/2" lower bout
-4 1/2" body depth
-Hard case included

Straight acoustic - you'd need to fit your own pick up .

Here's one listed here in Australia $1199.00 http://joondalupmusic.com.au/?produc...es-rsg200swvsk

I have a Maton SRS808 I bought last year, sorry, never played a CC Angel, but I think of mine as a fingerpicker’s delight, can’t imagine anyone wanting to strum it. The pickup is superb. A friend has the larger SRS70c and I would take a look at these, about the same price, same pickup, perfect strummer....Blackwood/Sitka. Lots of both on Gumtree..used.
