I would consider not cutting the ring out of a slab but rather bending a piece or maybe doing it in radial wood. Since you are asking. I feel sure it will look great which ever way you go.
A second vote for what John said.

It's kinda like the boss ain't even gone.

I know. Everyone thinks they're a builder these days.

+1 on this. sounds pretty.

Ok by a very narrow vote, Moradora wins the binding battle. The rosette vote is extremely close too, so I'm going to try to work something up and take a look at it. Stay tuned.

*PSA - the first post on the thread is keeping track of all votes and if they are still in progress.

While we're all just sitting around, help me decide on my side brace fabric strips. We typically have wooden side braces, but I'm going for a little speed here. Which color do you like: gray, purple, or blue?

And also because I know how much you enjoy (especially Tom) our shop pets, here's one of Frank playing in the road this morning.

Back to work.

Default Side Brace Fabric Vote

Side Brace Fabric Vote:
Gray
(because it is a neat and classy pattern)

P.S.: What kind of fabric is sturdy enough to serve as a side brace?

Gray goes better with the rosy colors.

Frank has ridges! Something he ate?

Ed, it's probably mainly the glue I'll impregnate the fabric with, but Martin has used this method for 100 years, so there's some history here.

Frank is a Texas Rat Snake, but he's an outside pet. So, if he has eaten anything, it's more than likely our indigenous rodent population.

Is that because of the snake, the Kansas State reference or both?

Oh yeah, and I vote for the Purple as well!

You're still coming to visit later this year right Tom?

Ok, a little more input on the rosette. I had something in my mind going with the rosette and I got to here:

If you can see, I've penciled in lines for another inner and outer ring of black/white/black purfling. But now I got it in, I don't know. Should I move forward with the original idea or stop here or glue in a larger wood ring over everything. Any thoughts?
