Default Beater recommendation for kids sleepaway camp

Kid is going to camp for 8 weeks and I am not sending them with the expensive Taylor they use during the year; just want a $100-$150 decent guitar to tie them over for the summer - any suggestions?

Something like this might work, but I don't want a guitar that is completely impossible to play:

Any suggestions at that price point? Don't care which manufacturer.

If it's a guitar camp I would send them with their guitar - just like everyone else does for cello, violin... music camps. If it's not a music camp, send them with sunscreen and bug repellant and let them play. Otherwise you should be able to find something on Craigslist or a local pawn-shop.

What he said. Whatever used FG / FS 7xx or 8xx you can find locally for a deal.

Why not buy the guy’s Backpacker from the previous thread? I’m serious, this is what they were intended for.

Agree with suggestion to buy one used from Craigslist, Facebook, etc. you can find some decent guitars for $100. Just throw out a number you are willing to pay and you will fine sellers more than willing to negotiate. It is a buyers market. Caveat - make sure you play it first.

The Yamaha F335 is all laminate and built like a tank.

Maybe look for a used Taylor 110? It's a bit more expensive but I've came across them in the $300-400 range and they are similar to what they are already playing.

Get a Cort Standard model or Jay Turser acoustic guitar. Both well made and they are made out of laminate which is a lot better than solid wood in your situation because it is much stronger.

Yes, they are great for backpacking but not much else, including playing.
