Depending on what I'm listening to at the moment:

1. Randy Rhoads- for hard rock
2. Stevie Ray Vaughan- for rockin' blues/jazz
3. Eric Johnson- for jazzier rock
4. Prince- for funk rock

...then there's Eric Clapton for everything else!

I have one Dokken cassette from the '80s ... Back for the Attack ... I'm assuming you're talking about Don Dokken as a solo artist? I've never listened to it.

His "solo" album was more of a super group with John Norum and other great musicians of that era/genre. Solid hard rock and lots of harmonized guitar solos.

I like guys with identifiable tone.
Neil Young, Jerry Garcia, and Jimi come to mind.

Less identifiable, but fine players, are some of the guys who have played with Dylan over the years. Charlie Sexton, Larry Campbell, Mike Bloomfield, and Freddy Koella all have a lot to offer.

I can't pinpoint just one, but if I had to pick, I'd choose Chicago bluesman Hound Dog Taylor.
