I tend to jump around a lot, but here's what I've been working on in the past week:

Pass the Buck - Laurence Juber (just getting started with it)
Jiffy Jam - Jerry Reed
Day Tripper / Lady Madonna - arr. Tommy Emmanuel
To B or not 2 B - Chet Atkins / Tommy Emmanuel
While My Guitar Gently Weeps (roughly my own arrangement)

I've been working out some solos on the Telecaster:
Reelin' In the Years intro - Steely Dan
Rikki Don't Lose That Number - Steely Dan
Best Friend's Girl - The Cars

Default current work

I am working on instrumental arrangements of a couple of Jimmy Rogers pieces. Got the vocals down. Just finished a John Prine tune that was called to my attention by George Strait. And am working on a new sequence of chords to which I'd never composed anything before. This one may take a while - I want it to have a certain feel. When I am done noodling with it, I'll write it down and find some words for it.

Great thread. I've been meandering back and forth on what fingerstyle song(s) to tackle next; this thread has offered my quite a few viable options.

Out of everyone's I've seen so far, Fazool, your list contains the most in the way of songs I would immedately like to learn. I love the Hysteria cover but never could find tab for a version I like. That arrangement in particular is amazing.

Anyawy, thanks to everyone for their input!!

I haven't been working on much lately except noodling with writing my own music, and even that not so seriously. I really want to attempt to do more in the way of serious, structured practicing and studying theory. thanks again!

(I guess if I had to, I could list the last 2 songs I learned, which were Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven" and Zeppelin '"Over the Hills and Far Away". (couple of easy ones, not like some of the more advanced stuff I've seen you guys working on above!)

Just started working on Blackberry Blossom. Really like the feel to the B section of this one.

I've got all the notes down, now I just need to get it up to speed.

Fiddle tunes are fun!

*********** Review section *********
Gin - Sakura Wish
Keith Chappell modified arr. Si Bheag Si Mhor
Masaaki Kishibe - Flower (Hana) - review, but re-record.

I think instead of maintaining the list at 10 as it was, I will decrease the "learn" and increase the "review" section. The gap between 2 and 3 is because I'm not moving to 3 until 1 and 2 are finished and recorded.

I have a bad habit of rushing to record a song, which as a result the tune doesn't come out that great and then only play it afterwards occasionally. As I work down this song list I will re-learn some of the things I posted on soundcloud (i.e. blues tunes) and do a better job of them.

Shooting Star is more of a review as I had learned it, but it deserves a decent recording so I'm taking my time with it.

What are you working on, what new directions are you planning on going? I was in a paint store today with the wife picking out colors and they had a few Beatles songs playing and there was one that I thought I could do a decent job with. I haven't learned one of theirs in some time.

Default What's on your instrumental table...

  • Restructuring/writing out a few Beach Boys tunes as 3-part vocals for our band, without losing the characteristic feel (playing with a lot of open voicings, overlapping parts, and implied harmonies - tough, but looks promising so far);
  • Researching/working up set lists of obscure songs by well-known acts, for some upcoming shows (don't ask);
  • Reworking our current set lists to minimize instrument changes between songs/number of instruments hauled to gigs;
  • Trying to find time to finish up some original songs-in-progress, that have been "in-progress" too long;
  • Plugging in my LP and reviving/tuning up my '80s thrash chops (yeah, don't ask about that either )...
Other than that, not much...

This evening I was working on a new version of "Light my Fire."

I have no idea why.

Here’s my current “working on” list.

Solo fingerstyle:

Shooting Star - Masaaki Kishibe (Daria Semikina inspired)
Flier - Mark Hanson original
Windy and Warm - Mark Hanson arrangement
Good Time Blues - David Blakeney arrangement (in Mark Hanson’s Art of Solo Fingerstyle course)
Sweet Baby James (James Taylor) - Mark Hanson arrangement

Fingerstyle accompany arrangements

Secret O’Life - James Taylor original arrangement
4+20 (Stephen Stills) - Dan Holloway DADGAD arrangement

Flatpick (rhythm accompany arrangements)

Baby, Now That I Found You (Allison Kraus)- Scott Nygard Peghead Nation arrangement
Someday (Steve Earle) - Scott Nygard Peghead Nation arrangement
Flora, The Lily of the West - Scott Nygard Peghead Nation arrangement
Long Black Veil - Roseanne Cash/Jeff Tweedy arrangement

There’s other songs I have learned that I play during the week also for “maintenance” so I don’t forget them and I throw in some flatpicking and fingerstyle woodshed work.
