Takeaways from DelFest Academy
I attended DelFest Academy this past week. It was a spur of the moment thing. I am a fingerstyle player from birth, and only after many years began to use a pick at all, to play with a Church band. It was suggested by another attendee that I use a thicker pick, which did increase my tone and volume greatly.I was using the thinnest Dunlops. The instructors are accessible and very good. The sounds from the pick up bands at the picnic tables have to be heard to be believed, and everyone was friendly, including Del himself. I corrupted the youth by showing them how to play Under The Double Eagle behind your head with a hat on the ground, to raise enough money to buy gas to get home, if you are in that position.
I recommend DelFest, even for non Bluegrassers, like me.
