My previous travel guitar had a polyfoam case. Flew to Baja for a ten-day sea kayak expedition, and the case was trashed by the time I got home. Guitar survived.

Godin's TRIC case is a foam one and it's one of the best of that design I have seen.

I don't currently own one, but really liked the ones I've had in the past. I don't think there's anything to be worried about as long as you're not handing it over to a baggage handler....

Count me in as another SKB fan. I think I paid around $115 on Amazon for mine and I couldn't believe the quality. Not to say it's sturdier than a hard case, but unless you treat it like the gorilla on the old Samsonite commercials, you'll be fine.

As for humidity in winter, you may have to check your water levels/hygrometer more often but it should be ok.

Polyfoam cases totally rock!

I highly recommend them and have happily used several from different manufacturers over the years for guitars and ukuleles.

I've used the SKB Strat case mentioned elsewhere in this thread, and currently own Guardian Featherweight Classical, and Road Runner PolyFoam Dreadnought & Classical cases with nary a problem. In fact, my J-45 flew to and from Bozeman in Southwest's cargo section in the Road Runner Dread case without incident.

Polyfoam cases are sturdy, light, & economical -- and you don't have to worry about the Tolex tearing

Some of them have better zippers than others. But, all of mine seem to collect dust in the fabric weave and don't wipe off as easy as a hard case.
