Default What headstock designs do people like.

I really like the headstock on the Yamaha SA2200. It's a bit Gisonish, and while I really like the Gibson headstock, I think the SA2200 is nicer. Sometimes I like to imagine that Yamaha will build an LJ16 with a 1 7/8 nut and the SA headstock. Anyway, what headstock designs do other people like?

I like traditional headstocks. I have a Seagull and although I play it often and don't normally think about it, the headstock on it is not my favorite.

Here you can find the true definition of ugly...

I happen to like the Seagull headstock. It is designed that way to achieve straight string pull fron the tuning pegs.

Otherwise my criteria are basic, tasteful, and symmetrical. I don't really give it much thought beyond that. Not a fan of wild and symmetrical headstock designs. The only Ovation we own (a resonator prototype) has a really thick slot head configuration. It is tricky to find a spot for a Snark tuner to clamp on.

I love Gibson and Guild headstocks - classy! Martin looks great and iconic, for sure. I have a Seagull as well, and that is not a good looking thing - works well, though. I didn't like the headstock on the Taylor I had, either. I'm also a big fan of the Epiphone Masterbilt headstocks.

Sooner or later I find myself wanting to lean a guitar up against a wall, if even for a moment, usually because there is no other open spot to put it at the time. Some head stocks allow so little contact or such precarious contact that I either can't or won't even try it. Not to call out any one manufacturer but a good example of a poor shape is Takamine. So for me I don't like head stock shapes that make the guitar unstable when trying to do this common feat. It doesn't mean that I would reject a guitar because of it but I notice the deficiency.

To me the coolest headstock ever designed is the Ovation headstock. I don't really think too much about headstocks although I used to hate the Seagull headstock until I had a Seagull and got used to it. I like it now.

But at the end of the day I prefer simple so I like the Martin style best.

I like Gibson's style (especially the banner) and Collings clean lines. Huss and Dalton's slot heads are beautiful as well and i really like the majority of Atkin headstocks.

For me it's more like which headstocks do I NOT like. There are far more that I appreciate for what they are than otherwise. I wouldn't call out any manufacturer/brand with a headstock that I don't like, but there are only a few that are so aesthetically displeasing, to me, that I wouldn't buy that brand again for any reason.

This is my 1966 D12-20. Now that's a headstock.

I love slotted headstocks but have never owned a guitar with one... Until about a week ago when I got a new guitar with a slotted headstock

Come to think of it, it might have been a pretty big reason for buying it in my mind

Big Seagull fan as well. It dosnt hurt that it likely stands out more than any mass produced guitar in the large box stores. The tapered headstock and the bright red maple leaf tag. Marketing genius of Mr. Godin.

The only guitar I have that gets more playing time than my Seagull folk is my Gibson. I still don't like the headstock though.

The Ovation headstock ESPECIALLY in the slotted form is a thing of great beauty.

Thankfully Parker changed the headstock on their acoustic guitars to the more conservative...

...having said that, the CLASSIC Parker headstock has a certain 'je ne sais quoi'
