Its really our new "Belly-Gripper" - "Lap-grabber" - "Knee-hugger" finish treatment. No more guitar slippin'-n-sliden' goin' because these babies will hug you tighter than a bug in a rug |

I've been enjoying this guitar for two weeks now, though not getting to play it nearly as much as I would like. It's almost 11:00 p.m., which is often a good time for me grab a guitar and play for a while as I peruse the AGF. Previously, the guitar I had in my lap was my lovely little 1995 Taylor Cotten special 612c. Still like that guitar!
Tonight, I got it out first and played five minutes or so. Then I swapped it for the McKnight, playing the same music. My wife, who is a marvelous musician, was watching hurricane coverage. She instantly muted the TV, and said "Whoa! What a dramatic difference!" The McKnight is a much bigger, richer, fuller sound, though it also speaks considerably softer when called on. It's high treble retains the beautiful tone, without getting very "thunky," where the tone is about 60% percussive attack. The mids are clear and sparkly, yet round and rich. The bottom is very present and matches the other registers beautifully, without being overbearing. With my normal fingerstyle touch, I would guess that the McKnight is about twice a loud as my beloved 612, maybe more. This means that I may still be playing the Taylor for these late night sessions, lest I keep my wife from going to sleep downstairs! I haven't yet done an A/B comparison side by side between the McKnight and my Taylor 914, but hope to try that tomorrow night. Don't get me wrong, my Taylors haven't changed in the last two weeks, so I still like them, a lot. But it's clear that the Award Guitar is on a whole different level! Who knows? I may even try to figure out how to capture these three guitars with my H4N recorder and put them up here. Never done that, but then I finally managed to but pictures in my posts, so maybe there's a chance! cotten |
