Nice set Paul! Looks like it will make a purty guitar.

Beautiful wood Paul! I'll be following this build closely- I love what you're thinking of doing with the design! And with the JK tone, it's going to be lovely. Cindy will have to come up with a really special name for this one!

I think that set will look striking Paul. This guitar should be quite light. You will want to keep it in its case or at least tether it to something substantial.

Thank you Beth for that tip of the hat, I appreciate it.

John

Thanks Ryan! And thanks to Steve K for his advice, too!!!

Beth, we look forward to another nice visit! We can play through our quivers..

And John, perhaps I will tether it to my harmonica/accessories case which weighs as much as a guitar in my gig bag!

I am really hoping I can talk you and Barbara into a mini vacation here with Cindy and me when this next beauty is done!

Play on AGF, and tune up often.

Paul

Tim said,

Spanish Cedar, IME, has a very mahogany-esque tone but with a bit more bass to treble balance. It doesn't have the sustain of RW or denser Mahoganies but it has enough to carry the note. Its more biased towards fundamental than lush overtone complexity.

I would agree completely with that assessment. I've also used it a lot for linings and necks. Even a few years ago it was still available in long 12/4 planks, but alas no longer, at least not around here.

Very cool that there's a supplier for more, I thought I'd built my one and only from it. And as also mentioned, it sure does make for a light a pretty guitar...

yes indeed, that is pretty. I'm feeling excited about this build.

there is a place where I live that has full 3 x 6 inch planks 8 feet long and longer so based on what you said, I'm feeling fortunate.

I'd be scooping that up for necks. It's a really nice neck wood, as long as you accept that all you'll taste is sap for a few days, lol!

Smile The latest...

David from Terra very kindly sent John FOUR SETS of Very Pretty and
very well quartersawn straight grain SC, for his inspection, after I paid for ONE.
Thank You David!!!

John has selected one for me and one for himself! That bodes well, I figure.

I believe John still has the other two at the moment. But they will need to go back to Terra unless anyone else wants one or both.

Anyone want to take the plunge with me?

BTW John is making a new BIGGER shape for me. So that will be a FINE new possibility for you BIG GUITAR FANS....

Hey John. If they are up to your exacting specs, Grab some of those SC 3x6 for necks, please!!!

Thanks again to all for so much wonderful information!!!

Cheers

Paul

I just talked to Steve M and he wants a set! Woohoo. He can send you moolah.

Please set one aside for him!!!

He was saying he really wanted a Mahogany JK and I told him about this. He has been offline for months. (Lucky guy! Haha)

One down, one to go...

Smile One set left....

JK has one set of this cool stuff left.

If anyone is interested please let him or me know.

This is the cream of David's stash.

Street grain, and quartersawn. I'm tempted to buy it myself… Ha ha ha ha ha ha

Cheers
