Default Sharing an original: Still the Stone

Sharing an original that I wrote and recently performed live.
Genre: Folk/Americana, Singer-Songwriter

Lyrics:

November always comes too early
But this one hit a little bit hard
Sunday drive through the Lakeside Hills
In an empty get-away car.

I'm still the stone
You always knew
Come rain or fire
Come love or blues
There's a neon sign
That's never on
Outside a heart
It's been closed too long
Through the dusty glass you'll see nothing changes here for me
It's just the same black and white the goes on and on
and on... I'm still the stone

She said I wish I could fight like you do
For something you're so sure is right
But I don't know what I want anymore
I just knew it was time for me to say goodbye

Now the rock's been rolled away
From a tomb that sealed the fate
Of something once so good
That went so wrong
But look at us here we are

I said you steal the lie
That you've always used
To sell your soul
And pay your dues
You'll be alright
But you best move on
To another short hat
To another short song
And when I get off that train
I'll get off alone
And I won't feel a thing
Cause I'm still the stone

I like this a lot. Originals with lyrics are pretty rare around here, and for me this is one of the better efforts. Something I'm often guilty of is being too on the nose with what I'm trying to say, so I appreciate a little ambiguity. For example, I'm not sure I get exactly what you're talking about in the lines "But you best move on to another short hat, to another short song," but I understand the overall meaning perfectly. The "short hat" got me thinking, and that's always good.

I'm not sure I expressed myself very well here, but bottom line, that's a good song.

Love the Title...Would like to see it used a little more throughout the song...
