To my ears, music makes a smiley face EQ (they don't let you see the applied EQ curve)

Aaron and Dave can you please try the "MUSIC" preset and compare to the Bose? I am pretty ure it is going to be as boomy as the Bose S1

These presets are for the global eq, is that correct? Then you set the eQ for each channel on top of that. I think I like the Performance EQ. I think music might be for canned music.

The biggest negative it seems to me is the lack of an xlr out. You can't use it as a monitor and plug into a PA, whether that's the house or a portable speaker. Correct? You can run a cable into another JBL Compact but that's it as far as any line out. I don't recall this issue being addressed, so please correct if I'm wrong.

Thanks. Those slots appear in the app's Demo mode but no EQ is set for any of them. Odd, that.

The output from the Eon One Compact appears to be a balanced TRS output. You should be able to use a TRS to XLR cable for monitor support.

Used JBL Compact yesterday evening, battery was good-Green
Woke up today, on red! I don't think I left it on?
Recharging now, hope it doesn't happen again.

David, just to add to what others have mentioned, the App is everything and I floundered until I downloaded and used it, and I see you're now using it, too. Have Fun!

Although the app is one of the most intriguing features of the Compact, it may also be a drawback. If the software or its host device fails, or become out if date, major features not available on the amp itself, are lost. I'm seriously considering this unit, but not having a fallback option concerns me.

The amp has treble and bass adjustments and reverb adjustments on the unit itself. The only thing missing would be the more intricate EQ abilities from the app and chorus/ delay.

Mine is full green. I did not charged it since day one. Note that the first day it did not charge and was red because the unit was deadly cold from the delivery.

I agree with ipa53. Once jbl, apple or google will stop publishing the updates. The unit will lose most if its interest.

But it is true for any ipad accessoires...

Electronics get outdated pretty fast even without programmed obsolescence.

Who is still using his line 6 ipod 2?

Problem is the battery. Even if you could stock an android tablet... the battery would be impossible to find. Think of the fair phone. It was supposed to be durable, and the official battery was discontinued after 3 years.

JBL could also discontinued the spare batteries. (As well as Bose).

Time to stock up on batteries :c

How depressing, think of a 1958 Les Paul how it is sought after and is worth thousands of dollars- and our Shiny new toy/JBL Compact might be junk in 3 or 4 years!

The battery looks like a plastic enclosure with standard 18650 cells inside. Unlike Bose that has a built-in circuit with a voltage converter.... I think it will be fixable in few years.

Default JBL EON Compact Unboxing/Initial Review

I don’t expect that they will discontinue software for the unit anytime soon. I have a piece of equipment at work that requires an iPad app that isn’t supported by the latest iOS. So we kept an old iPad around with the old software on it for that device. I think worst case is you can keep your old phone or tablet handy in the future to run this speaker. Though we’re more likely to just upgrade the unit in the future. This speaker would cost more and be larger if they made the onboard controls all physical/tactile. I consider it prosumer technology.
