Default Colin Powell passes away.

Colin Powell just passed away at the age of 84. It is a shame, I had a fair bit of respect for his accomplishments as well as his demeanor and wisdom. He had multiple myeloma which suppresses one’s immune response.

He was indeed a political figure, let’s recognize that and avoid comments about his politics.

I’m biting my tongue but yes, it’s certainly a loss. He was a reassuring and measured voice of reason in an age when it otherwise seems to be going out the window.

He was good friends with my mom and pop when they served together at Ft Campbell….he talks glowingly about my dad in his autobiography…..I never met him but my folks always spoke very highly of him…..one of the last of a dying breed….RIP…..

Proud to have served under his leadership during Desert Storm.

I didn't know he was also fighting Multiple Myeloma. My father died of that in 2009 and for close to a year he suffered pain I can't even put into words adequately. This may sound terrible, but if that is what Powell was headed for, he may be lucky that he was spared.

Same here - kinda explains why he kept a low profile the last few years...

I was very sad to read of Colin Powell's death. I have always admired him. I enjoyed his book some years ago.

He certainly served his country well as a good soldier and an inspirational leader.

Served his country in a variety of ways, in the military, as an advisor, and in the civilian government. Seemed to put the country first in his words and actions. Any controversies or mistakes seem small compared to his service.

He is worthy of respect.

RIP.

An admirable human, whatever your politics are. May he rest in peace.

I always liked Powell. He always seemed so calm and poised. There was a time a few years ago when it looked like he might run for President but then decided not to. I would have liked to have seen that.

RIP Powell.

Always liked him - seemed like a man of incredibly integrity. I was saddened to see this today.
