I think the flights are so much just for Bezos' ego, I mean, they go straight up and come straight back down. OK, it is space.

However, I was really moved by Shatner's impromptu talk with Bezos as he got out of the capsule. He was definitely at a loss for words and honestly moved by the experience and the visual experience of going through the atmosphere as it contrasted to the darkness of space. I thought he did an excellent job of making me feel like I had been there.

I hope I can go to space when I am 90!!!!

His ego aside, I see it differently.

What he's done is show that "regular folk" going into space is possible.

Now, bagging Shatner for this flight was a PR coup; no doubt about that. But the important thing is to remember that this guy; this actor with no in depth training, was able to go.

For me, that's the point...

Glad he didn't see any gremlins out the window during his flight.

Granted it's only the "edge" of space but the really impressive bit for me is the reusable main rocket stage. Each time it looks unstable and about to crash and burn before stabilising itself.

It's this reusable tech that will be the game changer and bring costs tumbling.

lol! Same with Dirk's post below - Hilarious!
For those who don't know, it always seemed that whenever someone on the original Star Trek show died they were wearing red.

Red = Security team. Which in Star Trek = cannon fodder.

So now it is definitely in our (humankind's) future to complain that our luggage was lost somewhere on Jupiter. It is during these times that one hopes the misplaced guitar was made of carbon fiber.

Given that they’re only going up for a few minutes, what makes these Blue Origin flights different from the “vomit comet” rides in a standard aircraft that were used to train NASA astronauts to get them accustomed to weightlessness? That same aircraft was used extensively for filming both “Apollo 13” and “Gravity,” during the scenes where they’re out of their seats and floating around the cabin.

The flight time doesn’t appear to be any different on this Jeff Bezos production: is it different at all?

Just curious.

Yes it's essentially the same thing. It's important to remember that "weightlessness" isn't the same thing as zero G. Shuttle, ISS etc, you are still just free falling in orbit.

It is an amazing accomplishment, no doubt, but I'm not calling it space flight until they can circumnavigate the globe.

Why does "space flight" have to require circumnavigation?
