Default Day-6!

So it's time to bring this thread current--Day-6 stated with a breakfast at Dolli's Diner on the old historic square of Nacogdoches, Texas.

While waiting on the bench out front I took a shot of some of the old buildings surrounding the square...

Day-6 was really about finishing up the final details and getting the box ready to send off for finishing at the spa.

We did a lot of work finishing up of the neck. Here I am telling Steve how the neck profile should really be! LOL

Then of course we couldn't have a day that didn't include sanding of some sort!

Here Steve and I are selecting what side dots we'll be using. That's what I think we're doing here any ways! Being a student build, we went with some really high tech, sophisticated white plastic ones...

And here I'm drilling out tiny holes for the aforementioned side dots while Steve renders the critical eye for plumbness...

So after a bit more sanding, and then masking off the bridge and fretboard extension, this build was a wrap! Actually, I think Ryan and Steve did a bit more final finishing behind the scenes after I left.

Nothing left to do now but take some final pictures...

So after another fabulous lunch by Billie, I was off to head back to the land of fruit and nuts to sunny California.

I can't thank Steve, Billie, and Ryan enough for all their warmth and hospitality and making me feel like family. It was such a wonderful experience with memories that I will cherish for a lifetime--getting a guitar out the deal is really the cherry to top it all off. If you can make it happen, I highly recommend doing a student build at Kinnaird West--you won't regret it!

Once I had returned home, Steve sent me these photos just before sending the guitar off to Tony for finishing...

So this thread becomes a waiting game for now. It will be 6-8 weeks before the guitar is back from finishing, strung and set-up at the shop, and then
shipped out to California. Steve has promised to do a video with the guitar before he ships it out, so we'll all get to hear what this puppy really sounds like. He says he's been polishing up his Pete Townshend repertoire so get ready!

Thanks for following along on this journey--I'll update this thread when I have some more to report. Cheers!

Fantastic Kevin, Kathy and I have eaten at Dolli's diner several times while dropping Nat off to school at SFA in town. Everything looks good and I can't wait to hear it!

Really looks great, Kevin! And kudos to Steve and Ryan for leading you (and others) through a really great project. Looking forward to seeing and hearing it when it’s done. Dave

Speaking of smashing, there is this Pete Townshend tune I’d like to try with Kevin’s guitar. Only, I can’t get quite the air that Pete does, but my floor is just as hard as his stage was.

Default Smashing!

Thanks for all the comments, folks!

It's been 3 weeks since the Padauk CS-13 flew the coop to Tony's, but no word yet on the progress. I'm patiently waiting and will keep you apprised of any further developments.

So in the spirit of TomB'sox I'll leave you with this...

Steve's talk of smashing is making me afraid
Since this is the only guitar I've yet made
But if his rendition is precise and true
The AGF will be asking "Who are you?"

Default Neck finish progress...

Not much to report, but I did get a couple of pictures from Steve. He is pretty well finished the pore filling on the neck and is getting ready to begin darkening the neck. Originally we were going to do a black neck, but with the Moradora binding we decided to go dark brown to match the darker tones of the Moradora.

Here's the current back of the neck with the Moradora backplate...

And here's the Padauk front plate...

Since the headplate looks so vibrant, I can't wait to see the back and sides once they have finish!

More to come as I get it--thanks for watching.

Thanks, Paul--good to have you along for the ride.

Steve sent me some pics from Tony's Spa before heading off to Artisan. Tony has this guitar looking mighty fine!

Gosh, I think our guitars must be in the spray booths together. Tony just finished some color on mine, yours does not need any color to be sure, that is beautiful.

Must be pretty cool to watch knowing you made it!!!!
