If you watch Gordon Lightfoot play his capo is almost permanent on the 2nd fret....the only time it isn't is when it is on the third fret. I have never seen it off his guitar.

I always wonder if his solo version might be closer to the way he originally wrote it.

As far as I know, this^^^ is the original, acoustic version of S&G's "Sound of Silence." I heard Simon and Garfunkel play this song acoustically in concert as a college student at Purdue University in 1967 and it was just Paul Simon, Art Garfunkel, and one guitar, a Guild F30, I believe. They sounded great!

Oh, and Paul Simon did use a capo located pretty far up the guitar neck.

This "Wednesday Morning, 3 AM" album was played by a lot of college radio stations, but mostly it did not take off. Columbia (if I remember correctly) was doing a session with someone else (Bob Dylan, maybe?) and had all these session players in the studio and decided to add drums, bass and electric guitars over the top of the acoustic recording of "Sounds of Silence." That version was a huge hit, as we know.

Yes. I was once in a band with that guy. There was a bit of a troll thread last week.

Yup, I definitely thought that was a troll thread, that's why I didn't even comment on it.

Ever use the capo on the Baritone? I've been tempted to try one just to see if I can find a range my voice would fit. . .

I probably shouldn't have. Ya can't let those people stomp all over stuff. I suppose there's not much of a point because guys like that always think they're winning an argument. Yet another reason they're such a delight to work with...until everyone quits.

Really?

I have long associate it with having only 5 fingers, instead of 6.

Maybe he's doing the Mark Knopfler version. Seriously, though, he's 75 years old. If I'm half as good at that age, I'll be quite satisfied.

You can do great things with a capo.

Now, am I allowed to play today? I cannot remember where I put my capo, you see....

Good one! My little tiny old lady hands would be insulted, but it was too funny.

I use this to learn new things that are giving me a little trouble to reduce the strain of using a guitar that's a bit too long for me. Better than causing an injury. I find after the repetition of learning, I can remove the capo and play it at the first fret ok.

I don't have my baritone with me right now but I've seen players use a capo on baritone.

I am reminded of a Quote from Johnny Gimble.

They didn't have a regular sized guitar handy?
