That Silvertone looks an awful lot like "El Kabong." My fingers are starting to bleed just at the memory

An old Kingston 12-string.

Was my first guitar, Intonation was terrible, and the nut was far too high. I ended up paying more for a setup than the thing cost in the first place.

When I finally found someone who wanted a cheap 12 the neck separated from the body.

'60s Suzuki folk, flat fingerboard, tall nut, straight saddle, finger and ear murder. It had been my sister's guitar and she made a beautiful soft case for it. I kind of forgot about caring for the thing after getting a decent guitar and I don't remember what happened to the guitar and case but I wish I still had them as my sister left this world 15 years ago.

1930s Supertone (Sears) all-birch parlor. Absolutely the worst sounding guitar I have owned in many moons. Cool looking as all get out though, And I absolutely have a blast playing it. At $30 with its original canvas case it was a bargain.

You're just playing the wrong stuff on it, obviously,

That guitar is just waiting for some delta blues to show up,

It was a Baldwin semi-acoustic 12 string. Red. One of the tuning pegs had been "repaired" with "araldite" (glue). The nut width was so narrow that it was unplayable. I swapped it for an echo unit!

I bought a cheap little Suzuki for $20.00? a number of years ago. I kept it for a few months and sold it for $50.00. For what it was, it was worth $50.00 but it was the worst acoustic I have owned.

Neither became a guitar player -- little wonder. Both do play other instruments, thankfully. Too bad they got off to such a poor start with guitars. I saved up and eventually got an only marginally better Wurlitzer 12-string. Actually, it was considerably better than the Stella but still a pretty poor instrument. Sure looked good, though, by late-1960s standards.
I had one of those, too, from the 70's- which I got from my brother when he didn't take to it. It would be at the top of the list for worst guitar I ever had, but it served it's purpose.

Back in 2001, I had a Fender Acoustic - cannot recall model. It was a Xmas present I got, and it looked great with Sunburst dread shape. But action was very high, and unplayable giving sore fingers after a few minutes trying to play something with it.

I didn't know what to do about it at the time. I thought every acoustic guitars are supposed to be like that. I didn't want to sell it or get rid of it, because it was Xmas present, but had to. It was traded in for part exchange for an Electric guitar.

My first acoustic, which I bought in 1985 when I started playing, was a stencil brand called Phantom. It was a steel string dreadnaught that cost under a hundred bucks. I used to call it "the cheese cutter" because the action was so high you could slide a wedge of cheese under the strings.

Somehow I managed to play the thing. Even made some 4-track recordings with it & you can hear the struggle to get any string-to-fret contact on the 1st fret.

I've got an uncle that I've always been close to and whenever he comes to town he tries to get to one of my shows. He called last winter to tell me he was going to give me his guitar because he just gave up trying to learn. My mom picked up on their next visit and brought it to me. It was a Lyon by Washburn and I honestly think it had a toothpick worth of actual wood on it. It played pretty good but sounded terrible. My gigging partner teaches 6th grade and sponsors the guitar club at the school. Since it played pretty good I gave it to him for the club under the condition he could never bring it back to me. LOL The kids love it and future generations are learning to play. Hopefully at some point someone will teach them what an acoustic guitar is SUPPOSED to sound like.
