Question Any Nickel Creek fans out there?

Hello All!
I recently bought a new CD by a young trio called Nickel Creek. Two guys and a gal, extremely talented. They play the "Newgrass" style of music. Just wondered if anyone else listens to them. They are going on tour with Vince Gill and Amy Grant.

Hi Atlantis,

I'm a fellow Nickel Creek fan. I normally don't care for this "style" of music, but I really, really enjoy listening to these guys (and gal). My wife and I are both amazed at the talent of these three, not just instrumentally but vocally as well.

Incidentally, both Chris Thile and Sara Watkins appear on Pat Kirtley's new CD. That's an excellent disc as well in case you're interested.

I've got the Nickle Creek CD, as well as Sean Watkins solo CD. They are very good technically, but I find the music somewhat cool emotionally. Perhaps it's just a matter of maturing some. Chris is an amazing talent, unfortunately, he knows it, and is a little aloof.

I remember them when they were little kids..playing local bluegrass festivals....went to see them at the La Paloma in Carlsbad last June and took my 17 year old son...they blew us both away...a lot of talent...

Yoda,

I agree that Chris Thile knows he is good. However, I have found him to be extremely gracious and in fact a little humbled by the success of the band.

As far as them sounding a little cold, that CD was recorded a while back. With a good bit of time under their belts playing in the big leagues, they are just plain HOT and even soulful. Did you catch them on Austin City Limits? WOW!

Tom,

No, I missed them on ACL, but will watch for the re-runs. Perhaps Chris is maturing as well, but he has been pretty snotty in the past. Or maybe it's just that I'm jealous that, at 62, I can't even HOLD a guitar as well as Sean??

The ACL they are on is the one with Dolly Parton. Chris plays on her part of the show too. If it does not come back around, email me. I can possibly find a copy of it in my archives.

Thumbs up

I was informed about this trio about a month ago and went looking for the CD.
They lived up to all the claims of a co-worker and then some. since I have only been "attempting" to play for just about a year, I fine myself inspired and yet intimidated.......why didnt I start this many MANY years ago, then I might be able to at least strum a single song?? hahahahahaha

I mentioned Nickel Creek on another thread about the teen awards or something or other. They are very talented. I listen to their cd often while driving, and I'll definitely keep an eye out for any new music from them. They were nominated for some awards, I believe, on the Country Music Awards program recently. But they were beaten out by the same old sound like everyone else performers. Oh well, maybe next year.

I enjoy their stuff tremendously. I especially like their use of the older style of language. Early American ...seems to take you back to a simpler time.

Default Nickle Creek

Very nice work, I was tipped to them when I bought my Bourgeois omv.

My 8 year old son loves them too!

Hey Cakes,

That is exactly the song I was thinking of. It remonds me of my grandmother. (the way she quotes scripture) Another of my favorites is the one about the young man and his love for his friends. We need more like that

Does anyone know if the guitar in "Out of the Woods" is standard tuning? I'm having trouble picking it up. Thanks.
