New Waterloo guitar option
What do you guys think? I will say that since I don't own a larger 14 fret, ladder braced version, I'm getting one by the end of this month, from my favorite guitar store here in the Nashville area, ArtisanGuitars! BTW, they do offer this pickguard option in either the X or ladder braced versions. I was told by Collings that what they do is paint the back of the guard, so it shows up better against the black finishes. It has that old Gibson L-00 look to it! Pictures lifted off Google. There is no price difference for this option.

Nice. Sure looks like a carbon copy of that L-00 shape.

I'll bet it sounds more open and responds more freely than a recent Gibson. Looks good.

I know, Willie!
Bill probably wasn't thinking about it in the beginning of the brand, three years ago, but it was probably due to the fact that he was chasing the Depression era or "Department Store" guitars of that period rather than a Gibson branded guitar. Even though Gibson made many of these guitars, they were made under names like Kel Kroydon, Kalamazoo and/or KG this or that.

UPDATE!
I spoke with Jesse today at ArtisanGuitars and after waiting for a good long while for this one to arrive, (since January) it will arrive within the next two weeks. What happened you say? Well the guitar came in from the factory in Austin two days ago and had everything I ordered on it except for the fact that they put the white guard on it! I told them, then it wasn't the guitar I ordered was it? Jesse said, very true. So Bill, the owner of Artisan, got on the phone and told Waterloo what happened and they said they had another black, ladder braced 14 fret with a truss rod in the line that hadn't had the pickguard attached yet. So they're putting the right fire striped guard on it and shipping it out. Stay Tuned!

I bought a used, ladder braced, tbar version of this guitar off Reverb recently. It was quite a deal and I am enjoying it immensely. The black finish with the striped pick guard is really evocative. Light as a feather, except for the matte finish, it looks and feels like a prewar Gibson 00 and the V neck is fantastic. My first guitar was a no name prewar 00, ladder braced with a really dark burst and V neck (bigger then the Waterloo) and the sound of this ladder braced Waterloo is very similar - open, slightly smeared transients (like it has it's own reverb chamber inside) and lots of sustain without much in the way of overtones. The biggest difference between the two is the Waterloo, as expected, is much easier and joyful to play. The No Name is a job I don't get paid for.

I like the looks of the fire strip pick guard better than the white.
Since the start of this post I got a Waterloo WL-K. I put a L-00 fire strip pick guard on it. I like it as I like the looks of guitars with pick guards. Plus I'd just chew the guitar up without one. I've already started in the area between the pick guard and the sound hole. Tomorrow I get my Waterloo WK-S Deluxe. I'm totally loving my WK-L. It's not for everybody by a long shot but it's the guitar that I always should have had.

PLEASE post a review after you spend a little time with your new guitar! I've got my eye on one of these (as well as the WL12Mh), and would love to hear your in-hand impressions of this model.
