Thanks guys, Bruce has done a great job as usual...

Things tend to progress rapidly on a build in Bruce’s shop at this point. The fingerboard will be shaped, inlayed, fretted, bridge fabricated, nut, bridge, tuners, pins installed and the guitar set up. I like to let it settle in a luthier’s shop for a week under string tension before it’s shipped. Barring no unforseen issues, this feels like a second week of January ‘018 guitar...

Beautiful guitar!
I am really smitten with the perfect line between the butt joint and the back strip. It looks continuous with only the binding interruption. That is harder than you might think.

Agreed John, those like yourself with a bench, magnifiers and chisels notice these details... One other thing to note is Bruce uses .010” and not the .020” purflings often used and achieves very nice miters to boot...

My father was a woodworker (NOT a luthier by any means) and I remember being mesmerized by the quality of what he built but the craftsmanship of this guitar is beyond anything I could ever have imagined.

The beauty of your instrument is stunning. I can only imagine what it looks like, and of course sounds like, in person. I am truly in awe...

I can't wait to see photos once it's complete.

As many times as I have been through the process of working with a luthier on crafting custom commission, experiencing the journey from art to part to instrument amazes me as well...

Yesterday, Bruce planed the fingerboard, added some hand sawn abalone birds at the octave and fretted it with Jescar EVO 43080 wire. I suspect today a bridge, nut and saddle will be created to close out 2017...

Bruce’s hand sawn birds have been a signature feature in his guitars for a number of years now. These are all hand sawn and unique. They are usually inlayed as a pattern of position markers. I asked him to come up with a 12th fret inlay with his birds that had some gestural movement to it. None of my other guitars by Bruce have any birds. I am glad that we found a way to integrate them...

Bruce chose a low density ebony bridge blank and crafted a belly bridge weighs about 32 grams. This is light for a belly bridge. The pyramid bridge on the single 0 that he made me was about 27 grams. This guitar has a much larger soundboard (16” vs. 13-1/2”). He has it cawled as the HHG hardens.
