Default Guitar sounds...different?

So I changed the strings for the first time on my new (to me) 12fret southern jumbo. I also changed another guitar the same time and same strings. Both had the normal tinny sound for a couple days, but the 12 fret hasn't gone away even though I've played the hell out of it. I did notice the nut was cut quite deep. Could the strings be rattling in the slots to create the tinny rattle? Any help is appreciated!

Some guitars just do not like certain strings.

Did you change gauge?

Fret each string between the second and third fret and note if the string is touching the first fret or if there is a tiny bit of space. If it is touching, it is possible that the nut slots are cut too low and you may be getting some buzzing.

Do you get the tinny rattle on open strings only or when fretted? If fretted, it's probably not your nut.

Check your neck relief by fretting the string at the 1st and 12th frets at the same time and note the distance between the string and the 5th fret. If it is touching, you have no neck relief, which could be causing a rattle. In that case, loosen the truss rod (turn counterclockwise) to introduce some neck relief.

It may just be the strings. Try some different ones.

I wonder if perhaps the ball end of the string isn't seated properly under the bridge pin? If it's all the strings you're hearing this then perhaps your guitar just doesn't like those strings.

Just curious, what happens when you use a capo?

it actually does look like the pins are not all the way in. not as obvious with a capo

It sounds like you went from dead strings to strings that are not dead. It could be that you don't like the sound of the strings you put on your guitar.

I guess my point is they sound fine on the other guitar so why is it so drastically different on the newer one. before the string change, both sounded very similar
