I was the Unix system administrator at Clemson University back in the 80s, I
worked there with Unix and Linux for 35 years. In the end I worked on a team
that got a kernel module upstream in Linux, and now I work part-time as the
maintainer of that module...

I have been a commercial beekeeper for 40 years this last summer. Producing honey in Minnesota in the summer and pollinating almonds in California come winter/spring. I will sell my bees in a month and then I can help my two sons work their bees.

Museum curator of ornithology ("we're the dead bird people"). I do research, studying live birds. I do a lot of education and mentoring. We're encouraged to affiliate with universities. I co-advised grad students in the past past; undergrads and teens the last 10 years. We're a very public state institution and birds are popular so I also give a lot of public programs.

I've been fortunate to either do research or co-lead tours in 9 other countries.

33 years. We have a decent defined pension and I could retire but with some ongoing medical/dental I'm holding on a bit until things are "stable" and I am closer to Medicare. Maybe 2 more to help with what's coming on the dental front (our medical insurance is still pretty decent).

For 10 of those 33 years, I was also a part-time skydiving instructor. Mostly as a "tandem" instructor.

So for my adult life I've been paid fairly well to do my hobbies. It always drove my Mom crazy ...... she always wanted me to learn a real skill. We always got a good laugh when I would call her.

Retired psychologist. Great career! Very gratifying to spend many years helping people of all types. But demanding, and intermittently pretty stressful. Being retired is quite pleasant, and not stressful.

I managed two plants for GELITA a international gelatin manufacture for 32 years. Then I semi retired and worked for a city art center. I fully retired and I'm still trying to figure out what I'm supposed to do.
