Cool An Amazing Podcast Episode

I just came across a very interesting podcast. It has been around for a while, so perhaps many of you are familiar with it already. The podcast is called “Sidetrack Liner Notes” and the episode is from January 2, 2019. John Peden interviews Dick Boak, one of the driving creative forces behind Martin Guitars for over the past 50 years.

Even if you are not a Martin fan, this podcast is worth a listen for the amazing accounts Boak gives of working with so many great artists including Willy Nelson, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, and so many more. Some of Boak’s first-hand accounts are touching, most are humorous, and I found all of them to be interesting and enlightening.

I haven’t listened to any other podcasts in this series, but I absolutely love this one. If you have a chance, give it a listen and let us know what you think.

IIRC there's a G.E. Smith episode in that series that is also pretty good. Great stories, great storyteller.

I have not listened to the Dick Boak podcast yet but I did listen to both John Hammond editions and found it hard to deal with due to the interviewer interrupting his subject WAY too much. Is seems like he's making an attempt to let his listeners realize how much knowledge he has and so he gets in the way of the artist he's supposed to be highlighting. I am going to listen to a few more in hopes that this is not the case with the rest of his work because there seems to be a lot of good material there.

In the Dick Boak episode the stories overshadow this, for the most part, but your point is a good one. I found myself thinking the same after an hour plus. But gosh, what a great career Mr. Boak made for himself!
