May 2014 AGF Showcase of Talent: Songs from movies and television
Hello everyone! For this month, lets focus on songs from movies and television shows. It doesn't have to be a theme song, as long as it was in a movie or TV show. This covers a LOT of ground!
I will be donating a $50 gift card from Strings and Beyond this month. This is NOT a competition. Anyone that enters a song or video will be entered into the drawing. This must be a version of YOU playing the song, either as an instrumental or you can sing. You may also have accompaniment. The song should focus on the acoustic guitar, though other instruments are allowed as backup or for a break here or there. The song can be in any style, from finger picking to strumming, from classical to blues, from rock to bluegrass, and anything in-between. Any movie, old or new, any television show, old or new, but you should at least tell us what show/movie it was in. You may start uploading your songs anytime from now to May 31. This is strictly for fun . Lets hear some music! Todd

OK, here's the first song. This is from the movie "Bonnie and Clyde" and is by Early Scruggs. This is a slowed down, mostly guitar version.
BTW, this is just for fun. I will not be part of the drawing other than providing the gift card and picking the winner from a hat. https://soundcloud.com/mcmakin-1/fog...tain-breakdown Todd

Here's one entry, three songs with me on guitar, singing by my daughter (and in the third song my wife too), my daughter playing ukulele on the second piece, and my wife on recorder or tambourine...
First, The Water is Wide. This one feels like a stretch, since I had to search Wikipedia to find whether it has been used in movies.... apparently it has, in, among other things, Renaldo and Clara, The River Wild, The Bounty (none of which have I seen!), and a variety of other films: And two more recordings that are a little rougher around the edges (among other things, my daughter was coming down sick and her voice was giving out the day we did these recordings), but I enjoy them anyway.... This one was sung by Elvis in Blue Hawaii... And this was in, well, the movie Georgy Girl, of course:

Pink Floyd - Goodbye Blue Sky
Todd, you're right about the topic covering quite a few songs.
Like WCAP, if you do a search on a song, half the time it's been in some movie. So I will post different songs here as I find them. Here is my instrumental version of Pink Floyd's Goodbye Blue Sky. It was in the 1982 British live-action/ animated film titled "Pink Floyd - The Wall". Like the album, I use special effects to heighten the mood. http://soundcloud.com/undefined-peop...odbye-blue-sky |

I can see how that can be an intricate piece. If I'm crazy enough, I may give that one a go later. Thanks for that great tune! noman |

I know it's not easy to bring the speed up to Flatt and Scruggs, but that's something that I would just practice and let simmer on the side. Every song has an identity. The duet will put this over the top. I love the sound of banjo. I've been thinking of buying a banjitar lately. noman |

And you're also adding words to it? Go for it! I've done many interpretations of songs, so I know how it feels. Todd, I also want to thank you for starting these threads. When I play guitar, it is always for fun. I'm not a Pro at all, but a hobbyist. noman |
