The Sleeping Tune - Tony McManus
Hi everyone,
Continuing on my recording journey, I am sharing my first attempt at a stereo recording. I've been told it would "open" the sound considerably compared to mono, but I wasn't expecting such drastic change. I am really happy I took the plunge because the outcome is quite rewarding. This tune should be familiar to most on this forum, and it is a clear favorite of mine. That time around I play it without capo, with a few imperfections along the way. But I am satisfied enough to share with you all, and hopefully gather feedback from the recording expert out there. This is a (non matched) pair of Gefell M300 into an Apogee into Reaper. No EQ or reverb added. Guitar is from Tom Sands (one month old). As always, thanks for taking the time to listen. I know videos are more engaging, but I still don't know how to do it Last edited by Vaillant75; 02-16-2021 at 10:55 AM. |

Tom, what a beautiful sound you've created! One of my favorite tunes, but one I haven't learned (yet?). The new guitar is stunning and sounding great in your hands.
All the best, Fred

Yes, stereo is better. I also have the M300 mikes and they are very nice. Good playing on the tune.
A wee bit of short tailed reverb would fill out the sound a little more.

great sound!
And great tunes you've posted (both this and dragon's back) that make me want to get the score and give it a go. Tom |

It’s a lovely tune and although simple in structure, it’s quite tough to play well. Good job, and nice recording.

Good job!
Another player you might enjoy is Stephen Wake. He has a page on bandcamp and you can get his notation there as a bundle pack.

Hi Tom, lovely performance and recording! I saw your video over on the College open mic. I transcribed the wee tune Tony McManus plays on the back of it (Na Goisidich) a while back from his 'Return To Kintail' album. I'm fairly sure Tony doesn't have this for sale anywhere so if Tom would like it I'd be happy to send it over! It's a lot of fun once memorized haha!
