I have EVO on both of my Brondel’s.
They spoiled me.
The other guitars feel lackluster in comparison.

The luthier currently building my OM told me there is no downside to them. I asked why more clients don't ask for them and he said that there is a widespread perception that frets should be silver/steel color. I don't feel that way, and I think they look great with the gold Gotohs.

I have one guitar with Gold EVO (2012) and two with stainless steel (2010 and 2015). None are showing signs of wear. My preference would be the Gold EVO, as I feel one of my guitars with SS may at times have a bit of ‘zingy’ sounds when the strings are fretted that may in part be due to the SS.

In putting my new build together with Lynn Dudenbostel, he recommended EVO frets without being asked. The combination of durability and workability is just right . And the color isn't intense by any means, but just for fun we paired up some antiqued brass Rodgers tuners with them and I think it will be passable.

That report surprises me. I think the gold harmonizes better with most any color of wood, at least better than silver. I have 2 with SS frets - they work great, no wear showing, and the luthiers said they had no problem working with them (Yes, I asked). So, I like them. My preference is EVO though, i have several with them. and find they work every bit as well as far as I can see. And speaking of "seeing", I like their looks the best. Classy.

I chose the Gold EVO on my custom Kramer and am happy I did. No downside whatsoever. I recommend.
Best,
Jayne

YES! GOLD EVO all the way. They look better, they polish up AMAZING, and the play wonderfully. I've played a lot guitars with both, and own several with both and I can't see any difference in wear.

I love Gold EVO fretwire - it looks great, feels great, it's hard wearing and builders tell me it's a lot more forgiving on tools than stainless steel. Honestly I can't think of any negatives.

Cheers,
David

Go EVO! I have them on my Rickard Maple Ridge 5-string Banjo and love them. They last longer than traditional nickel-silver frets and don't affect the tone in any negative way that my ears can detect.

Well you can't argue with 100% agreement among the voices of experience. EVO frets it is (or will be). Picts on completion!

Thanks again everyone.

I have 2 Goodall guitars with Evo. If I ever have to re-fret any of my guitars, I’ll use Evo. I like it.

When it's possible for me to choose, I always elect EVO 55090.
Does it sound better than nickel?

Fret materials have a sound?

I would say no, it sounds the same as nickel/silver. Some guitarists feel that stainless steel colors the tone in a way they don't like, which is unfortunate because stainless steel are lifetime frets.
