Gibson Les Paul
I just played a friend's Gibson Les Paul Standard tonight and it was indeed a beautiful guitar. Sounded awesome too. But my cheap Strat copy kept up with it just fine. I don't like to spend that much on guitars unless someone else is footing the bill .

Very interesting! What do you actually want to tell us? Perhaps that a cheap Strat copy with single coils sounds just like an original Gibson with hambuckers? I am sorry, but a discussion about it leads to nowhere!

Do you think about getting one of the more inexpensive Gibsons? Like a Faded or Tribute?

Ah, the ubiquitous Western opinion. How did it become so important?

"Kept up with it" how? Single coils will sound different from humbuckers in a Les Paul. So, exactly how did it keep up with it? You mean neither one failed?

B. You would like it if "someone else is footing the bill" for a guitar for you. I think I get the profile.

A great amp and a loaded pedal board would make even a cigar box guitar sound great.

Epiphone makes some terrific Les Paul models for a fraction of what you'd pay for a Gibson.

I just followed a spanking new Ford F 250 Super Duty Platinum with my old Toyota SR5 pickup and it kept up with it just fine. ?????

For starters OP, don't let the crowd get you down. Bunch of hipocrits. And I can't spell. On the one hand they will tell you this guitar is superb to do this and that guitar is perfect to do that. So, you see, they contradict themselves. Jackson Browne said there is a song in every guitar. There is no question your guitar can sound far out and groovy. No doubt. And, it might become a hit. All due to the tone of your $200 guitar. But the crowd will tell you the Gibson IS a hit. Ya right..... Kids.... And their toys. Don't spank them. Just send them to their room. With their $4,000 dollar guitars. That spank yours. Ya, right. Rant over....

Every guitar sounds different. Remember.?? And I've played $200 guitars that have better necks than a Strat Professional. Go figure.....

I think the OP was just stating that both guitars were enjoyable to play, even with a price difference.
It’s all good. No worries.
