Default Santa Cruz D12 Norman Blake - 12-fret $OLD

Finishing out my house cleaning for a cross country move next week, starting with this awesome 1996 12 fret SCGC dread, featuring hog back and sides with Sitka top for a recent retake on an early Martin dreadnought design. Has great balance without the boom of most dreads, thanks to fine tuning of the larger sound hole and unique SCGC bracing and top tuning. Also includes the original SC case in good shape, plus a K&K pickup, so ready for stage.

Will ship this to US buyer for $old! with Paypal friends and family - this week only (by Saturday).

Great playing condition and classic tone. Soundboard has some checking and pick marks and some nicks — this guitar has been loved, but played, and that maturity comes out when you play it. Needs some minor work (one of the tuners needs to be refitted, but it functions fine today, and there is some finish lift near the neck, outta sight. All that disappears though with the first note. Seriously:-)

Here’s what Santa Cruz says about it, along with the original specs:

“Legendary artist and first call session ace, Norman Blake, has long appreciated the power and sensitivity of the original dreadnought design with 12 frets clear of the body. SCGC’s prototype D-12 Model was commissioned to showcase Norman’s playing style by adding clarity and sustain for an articulate response to the flat pick. Building a guitar with 12 frets clear of the body creates more air volume, which allows greater amplitude and sustain. The hand tuned X-bracing insures increased bass response, while the top voicing and 4-1/4 inch sound hole size combine to achieve great presence in all ranges. This eliminates the tendency of the traditional dreadnought towards boominess at the expense of midrange and treble. The controlled integrity of Mahogany sides and back impart clarity and definition to the guitar’s complex acoustic presence. The D-12’s sheer volume, complexity and incredible sustain make it a truly inspiring stage partner.”

Hi pj — check your specs on the nut width. Standard is 1 3/4, not 1 7/8 unless it was a custom order. Looks like a 1996 based on the serial number.

GLWS. This is the best deal on the forum hands down, and I’ll be shocked if this lasts 24 hrs.

The nut looks quite wide relative to the headstock - if it is 1 7/8 I'd be surprised if the saddle is only 2 3/16

Thanks Brencat, it is a 1996, and I meant to include that. And it's got that nice aged tone to prove it. I agree it's a good deal, given the soft market I wanted to squash its cosmetic deficiencies and get a fair price out there (I'm moving cross country Sunday, so it's the right time to thin out). It's not a case queen, but it's a star player.

I double checked the nut width and it's 1 7/8.

On the nut I'm sure and I can post of picture - it's noticeably wider than my other guitars with 1 ¾ in addition to actually measuring 1 7/8 (that's the nut, not string to string). I know how to measure nuts.

However, I will plead ignorance on the bridge string spacing rule. I'm seeing conflicting rules here. It actually looks like just over 2 3/8 string to string at the saddle, but not sure if that's the correct measurement.

Measure from the center of the 1st string to the center of the 6th string, placing the ruler at the junction of the 1st string and saddle and measuring perpendicular to the strings (i.e., don't follow the angle of the saddle).

I recently bought a guitar from Paul. He’s an upstanding guy and would do business from him again without hesitation.

If I played dreads, this one would be sold...GLWS!

Thank you for the kind words, Glen.

The Santa Cruz sold in record time, folks. I appreciate everyone’s interest.
