Default Cool old video on Paul Simon's songwriting

Saw this this morning and thought some of you would like it, too.
May want to skip to 6:00 when he grabs a guitar.

Very enjoyable, and well worth watching from start to finish.

Thanks for sharing!

Default What a talent!

I should never watch a video like this. It makes me want to throw my guitars away! I love playing every night -- always. But, Paul Simon is such a natural, and makes it all look so easy. It must be wonderful to have his incredible talent.

I hear ya!
That looks to be an old Martin hog he pulled out. Wonder if that is a loner guitar or he brought it along himself?

Thanks so much for sharing this. I have always been so intimidated by the songwriting process and kind of wrote it off as something people could do or not. (And put myself in the ‘could not’ camp). But I’ve always so yearned to be able to do so, and lately I’ve had people encouraging me to try. I’ve been reading books and watching you tube videos about songwriting, and rather than being discouraged or more intimidated by it, I’ve come to see it as simply another way to express oneself with the written word. And I’m a pretty good writer. It’s more believable to me that it is a written form that can be learned. I have a song started and I’m going to keep working on it. It’s very encouraging to hear someone of Paul Simon’s stature( well, as a songwriter, that is) say that sometimes songs don’t come easily.

Yes, I've never even been a huge Simon fan, but he seemed so earnest and forthcoming in this interview that he really won me over.

And, boy can he play guitar and carry a tune!
