5 Guitars, Same Strings?
I'll be re-stringing all my recent acoustic acquisitions in a few weeks (minus two that are getting worked on).
All Eastmans. A J-45, 3 OM's, and an OO (see sig for details) Is there Any good reason Not to use the Same Strings on All of them? I figure it will be at least one 'constant' in hearing the differences between them. That, and having all new strings at the same time would be two constants. Which would allow me to really hear each on vs. the others in a fair setting. Your thoughts? And string recommendations.

Some folks will insist that a guitar has to have the right strings to sound it's best and there may be some truth to that. However I know from my experience that I like Phosphor Bronze strings on my acoustic guitars. I buy John Pearse PB stings in bulk and use them on all my guitars.

I've had 2 Martins for the past two years and this is the first time I've had the same strings on both (Daddario EXP19).

For many years I used the same strings on all my guitars, D'Addario EXPs, which I would purchase in ten-packs. Recently, however, as a result of conversations on this forum, I decided to experiment with Martin Retros on one of my guitars. I liked them so much I am now playing them on two of my guitars, both of which are mahogany b/s Martins. I'm still using EXPs on my other three guitars. I doubt that one of the guitars will ever sound as good with Retros; it's a cedar-top Breedlove that seems to do well with the brightness of the EXPs.

My favorite string discovery in 2019 was DR Sunbeams - I have them on 3 guitars at the moment and they're sounding great on all 3.

Personally, I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts throughout the experiment. |

So maybe a good/interesting idea:
First round, use all the same strings and compare all at the same time and take notes. Then, Next string change, buy 5 completely Different string types and compare notes. First round will be comparing guitars holding the strings as a constant. Second round will be comparing strings, holding the guitars as a constant.

I agree with sford52. I would like to know how the experiment turns out. I used to run d'addario lights on all my guitars and I've switched over to Martin retros and I love them.

I tried 7-8 different string sets for my Taylor 810 and absolutely preferred DR Rare strings.
I just restrung my new Martin D-28 with DR Rare. I hate, Hate, HATE them on the Martin. They completely sucked the soul out of this guitar. |

On both of my Eastman guitars, E10D and E20D, I've tried multiple brands. I actually enjoy experiencing, and hearing the differences between different string types. I have settled on either D'Addario nickel bronze, or Martin retro.

yup
So many great acoustics...and strings! I like to switch out various string makers with my different woods....the great joy of hearing new tones. My go to is generally monels and a 92/8 PB for that "Martin" tone...
