So very true. The right strings and pick combo have the other camps scratching their heads at the tonal balance. Congrats, the 327 is a real gem and on the wishlist!

Congrats! Great choice! If this guitar wasn’t too big for my small frame (or vice versa), it would likely be a guitar of my choice too.
Have fun playing and bonding with this guitar!

Congratulations on acquiring your Taylor 327e Grand Pacific! Taylor is definitely onto something with this model and its V-Class Bracing.

Happy NGD. That looks like a fine guitar, and I like all GPs without pickguards, and I don't miss pickguards at all.
Regarding the marketing of the GPs, I came to the conclusion like you that these are not dreadnoughts, but rather the perfect mix of Dread and OM/000. You get a nice old woody sound without the boom. My 717 has boom, but it also has mids and doesn't get lost or muddy. It just sounds like a good old guitar, which I think is what Andy was going for. Andy was on to something in that when you sit down to play a dreadnought, it doesn't sound like a recording because of all of the low end. That is one thing about dreads that irritates me because while its great to have all of that low end, it can get in the way and make it muffled. Also, I LOVE the sound of OM/000s, but they don't have quite enough volume and low end for me. The GPs are perfect for 95% of what I do. I do want to eventually get another Martin dread because while not perfect for everything, that Martin BOOM is impressive from time to time. |

Shades: You mirror my own thoughts. As for the woody sound of the GPs, I can't compare the 327 and your 517/717, but the hog top definitely pushes the envelope past my previous 317. I prefer the tone from larger bodied guitars, and the combination of finger style on the 327 and strumming my Martin D18 & HD28 seems to be a really good combination for me...

I'm a firm believer in the concept that less is often more, and my gut feeling was that the stock 327 has far too much black in the headstock. I briefly toyed with the idea of adding some open back tuners but was reluctant to start drilling holes and possibly misconfiguring the placement of the new tuners. Instead I installed a set of chrome Taylor tuners and some black knobs and am really pleased with the result. The knobs retain the black vintage look while the chrome tuners brighten things visually...

But what if they come out with a 527 lol.
Also going to put a clear pickguard on? |

I fully expect that Taylor will come out with a 527. I'll be largely playing finger style and strumming on my Martin dreads so no plans for a clear pickguard....

Congrats, RP. I'm pretty much done buying wood guitars -- I strongly favor CF now and have not bought a wooden guitar since 2014. But trying a 517BE in my LGS (back when we could still do that) almost changed my mind. And ditto on the pick guard removal. I don't need them and try to remove one ASAP on any guitar, new or used. I have always wished that the pick guard came loose in the case, but I understand why they are desirable in a retail setting.
