Default String options

I'm a big D'Addario fan and that is my goto string for all my guitars, EJ45 for my classical. I do like to experiment but I know less about classical guitars than others, so I am wondering if there are any other strings I should be experimenting with. I have tried Augustine but wasn't impressed, so any suggestions, even in the D'Addario line?

Try Augustine Imperial trebles with normal tension Savarez Cantiga basses. Great combo.

It really does depend on the guitar and player preference, but I really like the high tension Oasis carbons on my New World Player. The seemlessness in the tone transition between the wound D and the carbon G is the best of any set I've tried, including thse with wound Gs.

I used Savarez Aliance for several years, but have been satisfied with LaBella 2001 medium tension for the past few. They settle in quickly, and last forever. I do use a Savarez Alliance fluorocarbon G string, but the LaBella nylon G string isn't bad as far as nylon G strings go. The LaBella trebles are nylon, but seem to have a thinner diameter than EJ45's. I'll have to look into that some day.

I just bought a Taylor nylon string (214 2011Limited). It is used and the strings were pretty bad so I immediately replaced them with Pro Arte Hard tension. They sound okay , but I'm used to a steel string so I really have nothing to compRe it to. Can't comment on longevity, it's only been two weeks. But I'm thinking maybe I should have gone with the extra hard tension. They just feel almost floppy compared to steel. I'm sure part of it is not being used to the difference yet. I also read very good reviews on the Pro Arte Composite strings. Anyone here used them?

Extra hard tension will be larger diameter than hard tension so in that respect they won't feel anything like steel strings. Sometimes steel string players like carbon strings, like high tension Savarez Alliance, because they are thinner than nylon and have more top end brilliance than nylon.

Nylon strings will never feel like steel strings no matter what. I play both, and it's just a matter of getting used to them and not pulling or pushing the strings out of tune when fretting.
