FINALLY learned "City of New Orleans" after a full six months of trying. So many chords AND words. I'd get the lyrics right, then screw up the chords; then I'd get the chords right and screw up the words. Finally got it down and played it in a show a few months back. Wonderful song.

I'm working on Lewis and Clark by Tommy E., probably the easiest of his compositions to play. By at least a standard of how far you have to stretch your hands (Angelina, anyone?).

I'm also working through a fingerstyle version of Elvis's Cant Help Falling in Love with You. Definitely my favorite piece to play right now, once I get it dialed in I hope to post a video.

I'm working on a couple of Masaaki Kishibe's tunes, Flower (re-learning it) and Dandelion. I might add a couple of more as well.

I'm also always working on something by Al Petteway. Dogue Creek, Sheep at the Door, Broken Mist, Sligo Creek and some things from his Appalachian Guitar lessons. Most of his stuff is faster than I usually play so its a push for me, but fun. And there's always the stuff I have from Toby Walker that is really fun to work on also.

I've just learned Jesse Winchester's Sham-a-ling-dong-ding. I had never heard of him or the song until a recent post. The chords are very easy, but the melody has some interesting twists and took me longer than I expected.

Wild Horses - As soon as I get a nice advanced campfire version nailed, I modify it with more picking and runs and start over.

I Won't Back Down - looks real easy but Tom's strumming is much harder than it looks.

Wanted Dead Or Alive - just started this one.


I am using many multiple youtube and internet sites on these songs.
I always require video, paper tab, and several audio versions.
Never did develop an ear for this or understand the theory.

I have been working on Mark Hanson's Key to the Kingdom for a few months now. As a novice finger picker it is above my skill level to play it anywhere near performance speed but it sounds pretty cool anyway.

I just picked up Valerie Turner's recent book Country Blues-Guitar Basics. She has a neat arrangement of Sugar Babe, It's All Over Now which I just learned. I'm looking for some other versions and maybe do an improve verse as well as it is only an 8 bar blues.

Vincent, and about 800 Beatles tunes, are where I would like to go next.

I'm not learning many new vocal tunes at present, but I will work on some Jason Isbell numbers when I have time. I guess the most recent ones are Speed Trap Town, Traveling Alone and Cover Me Up (that is a challenging vocal!)
