1927 Martin 00-18 Build Date
This goes out to the Martin "history" experts on this forum. I'm expecting delivery of a 1927 Martin 00-18 today I called Martin Customer Service yesterday, and they told me their records indicate that the serial number for this guitar was created and stamped on the neck block on January 25th, 1927. Martin CS doesn't have records of when it was actually completed and ready for sale. Anyone have ideas on how long it might have taken the Martin Craftsmen to complete a guitar during this era? A total of 5745 SN#'s were generated in 1927. Thanks for helping to satisfy my curiosity!

I’m curious how much these vintage guitars go for in reality? Reverb prices seem a bit far-fetched (I think I have seen as much as $100k!), would be really grateful if you could let me know, if you would prefer PM me I will keep it private. No worries if personal

As for a late 20s 00-18, they generally sit in the 5-6k range. The '30-31 area ones go for a fair bit more, since that's approaching the heart of the golden era for Martin. The early 30s 00-18 12 frets are considered the best sounding ones. A little more power than the 20s stuff with similar light touch responsiveness. |

My guess is a Martin with a neck block stamped in January probably was finished in late March or early April.

Thanks for the replies everyone This '27 Martin came from Elderly, and they did a great job with some top crack repairs and the setup is perfect for me. This is the first vintage guitar I've ever played, and I bought it sight unseen! Finger-style is pretty good on this guitar, and light strumming/picking sounds really great. This vintage Martin is my Mothers birth year, so that is the biggest reason I grabbed it. I'm looking forward to getting to know this 00-18 over the next few weeks, and imagine I will be playing it a lot due to it's comfortable size and tone. I need to sign up on a hosting site and then I'll post some pics

Grieg Hutton has the list. Here is the thread. Just give him the serial number and in a few days he’ll post all the information he has on the guitar.
