Old Timers and Old Timers
Who here thinks they might have owned a single guitar the longest? I think we recently had someone who had owned the same D-18 since 1950: pretty hard to beat. My 28 years is nothing against that.
Who here thinks they own the oldest guitar, regardless of when they got it? I saw a 1910 Gibson on here not long ago. Do we have any 19th century guitars?

My oldest is a mere 18 years old. If I would have kept my Martin M-38, it is now 28 years old. And that Yamaha that I owned for a good long while is now 48 years old. Too bad that I could not have kept either of them but every time I upgraded, one had to go to pay for the new one.
Yep, 69 years will be hard to beat here though I think some folks have some Washburns from around the early 1900s. A friend of mine sold a 1920 Martin 0-18 a few years back - that one would be 99 years old. I would imagine there are some of those floating around as well. Best, Jayne |

I used to have a Gibson L-3 (L-1?) dated at 1915. It was in almost showroom condition. Even had the original pick-guard and a tailpiece with a tortoiseshell cross piece with pins.
I got £150 for it in 1975 to pay for a month's mortgage! Sometime Later, I thought I saw Loudon Wainwright III playing it on TV. Still miss it! Looked like this :

I have a '78 Guild D-55. I'm the original owner. I'm pretty sure there's a few original owners out there with older guitars.

I've owned a 1963 Martin since 1984. Can't believe that would even come close to longest, certainly not oldest.
But, for one brief moment, I'm in the lead

My Martin 00-16C isn’t real old, 1967, but I’ve had it since 1978. That’s 41 years.

Not sure how this qualifies but my dad got my '59 J-45 for Christmas in 1959. It came to me when he passed in 1979. So I've technically "owned" it for 40 years, but we've been living under the same roof since I was born in '66.

I have a Gibson L-1 archtop, introduced 1902 discontinued 1925 (an expert could narrow that down I suppose) so that's oldish. It could use some refurbishing which I mean to get around to some day.
PS - owned by me since some time in the 1990s.

My oldest - and very first - guitar is a Silvertone folk model (000 size, western motif) that was Christmas present in 1968. That makes it nearly 51 years old. It hangs on my office wall and still sees some play time. But there have to be many, many examples here of far older guitars and longer tenures with their owners.

I received a Sears Silvertone Classical in 1970 and still have it. That's 49 years.
I have a 1974 Kalamazoo Gibson that I bought in 1977. That's 42 years. Bob

Here's one from "the other side" (AGF classifieds). Not mine but a cool-sounding instrument. Unfortunately it doesn't qualify for the "under 5K" challenge issued in other post.
