As a new X30 owner I can attest that I haven't played a guitar this good in many years, and that includes many models from several different premier makers. I never would have dreamed of making that statement before making the first chord on the X30.

Hi Alex,
Thanks for taking the time to do this for the group. My main acoustic baseline sound is a Martin HD-28 that I bought new in 1981, and the top-post by esimms86 hits all of my major questions. A secondary topic for me - might be string feedback for the X20 and X30 wrt gauges, coatings, material, manufacturer, playing style, tunings The string possibilities start to approach infinity with all of the different combinations and preferences, but thinning it down to a smaller, workable number would certainly be appreciated. (I primarily do relatively light-handed strumming, arpeggio and flat-picking in standard tuning with Martin LifeSpan Coated 92/8 PB 12-54 strings.) |

I really like my X20 with the exception of the neck width down past the 5th fret. Im pleased with the overall sound of this cf guitar but when I want that woody, earthy, soulful tone , I reach for a Martin. The X20 has good tone its just a lot different to my ear than a good all wood guitar.
Hoping one day I can play an X30 to compare against the X20.

Given the tone and loudness of my Emerald X20, I don't feel the need, other than to satisfy my American bigger is better thingy, to buy an Emerald X30! Then again ...

I have both the X20 and the X30. X30 is bigger, bolder and has more horsepower overall. It's like the same car with a V8 instead of a V6 engine. For me the X20 physically fits better, and I'm a big guy. But I play classical position rather than guitar-on-right-leg.
