Here's an old Bill Staines tune that came to mind this morning when I woke up and it was 39 degrees - the last couple days it seems fall has begun, and this seemed very fitting, so I fired up the gear.

Hadn't played this one in years......"October Winds"

This is a piece by contemporary guitarist/composer Jeremy Choi, title track from his second album called "At the Door".
The title doesn't have any particular connection with autumn, but for me this is definitely an autumn song. Maybe because I first heard it in autumn, maybe because being "at the door" means being about to leave and this season has a feeling of leaving things behind and often symbolizes things coming to an end, but I completely fell in love with this a bit sad and beautiful nostalgic melody and it connected with the theme of autumn in my head forever.

The album was released in October, by the way
P.S. It was my very first video, so the quality isn't perfect, sorry for this...
Beautifully done......you've got a great touch!

Default I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry_Hank Williams_1949

This song for me evokes the season we’re in. First heard it around the age of 11 late at night - supposed to be asleep - listening to a transistor radio tucked under my pillow.

(Apologies to folks who prefer embedded files. I tried embedding SoundCloud files briefly but SC, for whatever reason, hasn’t stabilized the link between their platform and files embedded on other sites.)

Default original: Summer's End

Here's an original I co-wrote with a vocalist friend. I re-recorded it this evening just for fun, since she sings the song in the studio version.. (under the band name "Liquid State").

My version here:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...%27s%20end.mp3

The song was born when I discovered this little musical phrase playing around the campfire.. watching my daughter play with a couple of her cousins on a camping trip. It was late in the season and it was cooling off as the sun set, quite a nip in the air.. it reminded me that, much like the end of summer, I'm watching my daughter as she is in the late summer of her childhood.. THAT summer is also just about over.

Now she is in college... and doing wonderfully, but I miss her and this captures some of that feeling.

I recorded this about six months ago. At the time, I'd only been playing the guitar about six months. Now that I've been playing about a year, I should be twice as good, right?

Anyway, its a song about the end of summer and the end summer love.

Great! Very touching, both in song and background story. Well done.
I get it.

OK, here's another one I recorded with the Zoom H4N. Just me and the guitar, as always.

Anyway, here's my take on Ghost Riders in the Sky for the Halloween side of October...

Nice job, Todd! It's amazing how good recordings the Zoom H4N makes with just its internal mics.

I have two more for you guys...

The first one is "Oh Death", an old song by Ralph Stanley and featured in the movie Oh Brother Where Art Thou. That version was A-Capella. The original had instruments. Anyway, I apologize for all of the background noise. My wife and kids were watching Little House on the Prairie in the living room.

Next up is an old Country Gentlemen tune called "Bringing Mary Home." It's about a ghost and should fit well with the Halloween theme.

Again, sorry for all of the background noise. I swear I WILL have a man-cave/recording space one day.

Todd
