Default NGD. Yamaha LS-10T

My son and I went up to see my mom in northern Idaho and on the way, I stopped at a pawnshop to get out and stretch my legs. Among the many, what I consider overpriced, guitars I did see this hanging on the wall. They were asking $500 with the original case, but considering the guitar has two cracks that need to be fixed and it has definitely been used and maybe a touch abused, I offered half. I walked out paying a touch more than I offered. Great little guitar. More mids than my 76 000-18 and quite resonant. I ended up watching a movie with the family while the guitar was on my lap and I could feel it vibrating from the stereo system.

I couldn’t find much info on it until I realized the LS-10 is the same guitar as the LS-400, just a JDM model. I’ve been on the hunt for a good sounding guitar I can take to my classroom and play during break and didn't really feel like taking a Martin to school.

Superb find sir [emoji122]

Yes the LL10 aka the LS400 is part of one of Yamaha’s Custom Shop series dating from ‘99 to early 2004.

I’d be interested to see the bracing pattern on your guitar; the LS400 has a fairly unique double-X brace thing going on.

Anyhow, you have a fantastic guitar there, I’d get the cracks looked into, it’s definitely a guitar worth putting right.

Thanks for that, so it is a double X brace, unique to the mahogany LS. Pretty sure the LL400 has the same scalloped arrangement as my LL500.

That tinted too is fabulous by the way and I like the tortoise pickguard, the 400/500 guitars have clear pickguards in the same shape.

I’m massively regretting not going for an LS400 that I was following on Reverb last year, it was local too [emoji2959]

It sounds great too. I wasn’t sure what to expect as I never tried a double x-braced guitar. I would say it it sounds a touch more balanced. I have a 76 000-18 that I will A/B with it when I get home.

The Martin is definitely a bit heavier in the upper mids, but the Yamaha is much more articulate. I like the neck on the Yamaha better too.

Incidentally I just refretted the Yamaha today ina guitar repair workshop and it plays so nice. The frets were hammered, and I was looking for a good candidate for the workshop, so this was the perfect guitar.

I wish I would have taken a before pic, but the frets, particularly along the b string, were toast all the way down to the 14th fret.

Sweet looking thing. Do you have any idea its vintage?

And what does JDM mean? Japan domestic market?

Correct on the JDM. If I recall, it is from 98 or 99.
