Greatest intros.
I'm a sucker for a great intro, heres a couple of my favorites, what are yours?
This is a Dream Theatre song, and while the intro is epic the song in itself was an intro of sorts to the album it kicked off. With Mike Portnoy now out of the band, his project is actually the best live version I could find... it speaks volumes that in replacing just the drummer, Dream Theatre's music seemed to lose more than Mike lost after replacing the whole rest of the band. An incredibly tallented guy for sure. Obvously all intros cant be 7 minuets long. Always loved the tension of this flamenco-ish of intro with the pulsing feedback building untill it takes off. Once again, kicking off the whole album in an inspiring fashion. Last edited by Bushleague; 02-25-2022 at 02:33 PM. |

And on the subject of punky music, these two come to mind. Alot more simple, just a really nice job of constructing the song piece by piece and then kicking it off. Both with really great bass work which I always enjoy. |

Bushleague, given that you have a Mike Portnoy piece then you must know Iron Maiden's Hallowed be thy Name. Great intro:
Starts off with the haunting intro, great vocal melody, then kicks it up with the guitar solo before the main verse comes in with just Bruce singing, and then the entire band enters, all before the 2:00 mark. The Live After Death version is awesome. |

This one's probably my favorite rock intro:
And this is my favorite blues intro:

For me, it’s tough to beat this one from Robben Ford - although Deep Purple’s “Lazy” comes pretty darn close.

I always thought this was interesting. Steely Dan. Live. Introduction is very unusual.

This isn't acoustic and everyone knows it but it's just so tight and economical with each instrument being introduced. For me this is just about the most perfect 24 second set-up... |
