I would so love to have a Bhatt style guitar. I nearly acquired a dilruba, but sarangi and dilruba have that skin head and require some lutherie commitment. Meanwhile, I've got too many other things going on..

They had a Mohan Veena over at the Trading Musician once, 4-5 years ago. No idea who made it, and it was only something like $1200 US. But I remember thinking that, if it didn't take, reselling it was going to be next to impossible.

These are by the guy in Australia who built one of my Weissenborn's: http://timkillcustom.com/indian-classical-slide-guitars

I’m actively looking for a Mohan Veena just now, there are a couple of internet places to get them (Sergi at https://sitarsencat.com//cat-sitars-...de-instruments has been particularly helpful). I do plan to be in India later this year, but it may be better to pay the premium to someone that knows, as with 21 strings structure is of importance.
Looking at a stopgap, I was considering restringing either a 12 string or my resonator to give the melody strings and some of the drones (but not the sympathetic strings), but it’s probably more trouble than it’s worth.
