As someone who's home is barely worth 50k, I can't fathom that amount on an instrument!

I'll just say that if I came into a large amount of money, I would have one more guitar built:

12 fret cutaway
1 7/8 - 2 3/8 short scale
Probably Redwood top and (ok, I'll splurge) The Tree back and sides.
The design would be intented to replicate, as closely as possible, the smoothness of a classical in a steel string.

Something wonderful from Tim McKnight should cover half that amount. The other 25k would buy several nice guitars to give away to deserving players who can’t afford a nice guitar.

I’d like a Froggy Bottom full sized guitar. One of either the SJ, D12, or K models. Rosewood and German or Adirondack Spruce. I would save the rest of the money and probably sell two of my guitars there after. I might spend a little more to overhaul my portable PA speakers with something a bit more professional and then setup a home recording desk.

Unless someone held a gun to my head, I would never spend $50,000 on a guitar. If I weren't so old, I'd buy a Martin D-42. That guitar would take me to guitar heaven.

I honestly cannot comprehend this question. I guess a prewar martin. Or spend 5 or 10 k and do something awesome with the rest like a trip or cure some kid’s cancer. $50k is a lot of money.

If I had the luxury of blowing $50K? Without a doubt, I'd find a Kim Walker. I consider that my ghost orchid. I have long given up on the possibility of owning one. It's always good to recognize the things you are not going to attain.

I'd buy a Collings and a Martin...and probably have enough left over for an Olson.

Easy. People are being slaughtered, tortured, maimed and starved and here we are wondering about how to spend $50,000 on a tricked out shiny new guitar. Like it or not, I find our lust pretty sick.

There was a recent thread on the UMGF about how this guy’s old cat needed a surgery worth more than a car and how people on Facebook threw so much money at him he had to shut down the fundraiser (I think he said he raised $8k in a day) to which I didn’t have the gall to point out that if his cause had instead been helping abused homeless kids, he probably wouldn’t have raised near that much. Buy a guitar or cure some kids cancer… I agree with you—“our lust is pretty sick,” and I need to check my own lust above all. Thanks for the reminder.

Then you're in the wrong place. This is a *guitar* forum.

Smile Well, yes….

The world is a mess, and apparently always has been…

And if I had the moolah, I would just order two more from John Kinnaird.
Check the build thread below to get an idea why…

And I would have plenty left over to do some good somewhere too!

After spending my entire life playing for a meager living, I figure I am just gonna keep at it till the wheels fall off.

Play em if ya got em

Paul

I'd buy a Collings 01 and have $45,000 in the bank.

I'd probably be happy with the right Collings Dread and call it a day as well!
