Man, that's a killer deal! I've had MG-TDs, an MGB-GT, and finally a great MGB with the big rubber bumper. Loved that car! I think I unloaded it because I was living in SoCal and it didn't have air conditioning. I'd love to pick one up now though, except they're typically 3 times or more what you paid. Back in the day I paid 3K for that one that was in great shape.

Yea, you screwed up, big time. You'll spend allot of money, waist a lot of time and have the time of your life doing it.

The bass player in one of my bands had an A just like that... color and all. Beautiful.

Back in the day I worked on a number of MGAs (including a twin-cam coupe) & MGBs. Fun to drive, but definitely expect to spend time on maintenance, particularly carburetors. Not a bad idea to keep spares on fuel-related items - spare carb, fuel filters (if used in your model), fuel pump. Hopefully won't need a fuel tank replacement. Oh... bulbs and carry the correct tools with you (plus string & rubber bands). Never got completely stranded - always managed to limp home.

I found the Austin Healy 3000 to be even more fun.

I don't know the first thing about owning or maintaining one but I'm envious!!!

Enjoy it! I know I would.

Best,

No way it’s a mistake. Great opportunity to have some old time fun. Tried one out for my wife backin the ‘80s. Believe it or not, she couldn’t reach the peddles. She was really depressed til we found her an Alfa. She drove that car every day for almost 15 years. These little old ragtops are a lot of fun. Enjoy.

I rebuilt a ‘73 B back in ‘87. This was in the UK. The MG owners club was a great resource with pretty much everything you could need.
It was great fun. If it has the 2x 6v batteries then a conversion to a 12v is worth considering (much more reliable) and getting an acquaintance with tuning carburetors is good. Electronic ignition conversion is also recommended.
Mine was rusty, so an ongoing headache as a daily driver, but such fun.
Enjoy!

In 1971 I bought a ‘67 MGB in British Racing Green. It had the wire wheels and was in superb shape.
Most fun car I ever owned.
I wouldn’t dare take one out on an interstate these days.

I have a friend with a second year Datson sports car. It is supper small. It's like tin around a go cart. He's selling it as with all the big vehicles people don't see him or know he's around them.

I had the same problem with my little MGB-GT. If I was in front of a big truck they sometimes didn't see me at a stop light. I almost got run over once by a semi that didn't see me there or forgot that I was there. My sister-in-law actually got the rear of her little sports car crushed by a semi that didn't remember she was there at a stoplight.

Well, for sure you just traded a lot of guitar time for some wrench time. Only you know if that’s a mistake, but I think not. And on this forum, spending 3 grand on something you’re uncertain about happens every day. It wouldn’t even make some folks’ top ten!
Have fun.

I had a 1966 MGB in college during the late 1970’s. Black on black, wire wheels, chrome bumpers…what a fun car! Took a lot of TLC though and broke down a bunch. I bought it when a “firm” deal on a ‘66 canary yellow, convertible Thunderbird fell through ‘cause the friend of my Dad decided he couldn’t part with it. If it’s a weekend car you’ll have a blast!

Don't think it'll be a waste as long as you drive and enjoy it. My dad was into MG's. He had them in his late teen's and 20's. Sold his last one to pay for my mom wedding dress. Around 1990 he found a 79 Midget in british racing green with like 12,000 original miles that ran like a top, but still wanted an MG-B and finally found a nice 77. Unfortunately my dad turned into sort of one of those weirdo's who buys things and then doesn't use them cause he thinks he needs to keep it in immaculate condition and thats the only way. Won't let anyone else drive them either. He ended up selling it to a neighbor 5-6 years ago and I had to watch this dude rip it around as it was meant to.

Dad had one of those when I was in High School. Girls' fathers were happy to let daughters go out with me, as there was no room in that little thing.

Hmmmmm, Where there's a will.
