Electric bass guitar
I am looking for an electric bass guitar. I would prefer a Fender jazz bass. I know there are multiple variations in the fender jazz bass lineup. Open to just about any of those.

Most Jazz basses I see are pretty expensive antiques or re-issues like that Squire mentioned above.
I suggest Carvin Basses if you’re willing to expand your net a little. |

There are still plenty of American-made Fender Jazz basses out there at reasonable prices, and calling one of these a "reissue" is akin to calling a 2023 Martin dread a "reissue." Furthermore, having owned a Squier PJ Precision bass until recently, I can attest that Squier quality and tone can be very good - real bang for the buck. (Furthermore, if you're not dead set on a Jazz, the PJ I had could cop both the Pbass and Jbass tones - probably the most flexible bass I'd ever owned). With regards to Carvin basses, they are no longer made (at least not by Carvin). Carvin's guitar and bass division was spun off years ago as Kiesel Guitars. They are relatively expensive and generally do not have a distinctive voice (and certainly do not have a classic sound like a pbass, or jbass, or even a Rickenbacker). To the OP, that Squier Jazz an AGFer linked to above would be an excellent entry-level bass - comfy to play, classic tone, classic 70s looks, and great price. I don't think you'd be disappointed.

In my experience buying and selling guitars, it's better to find a good deal on a nice instrument when you are buying. Buying the cheapest instrument often results in owning an instrument that is hard to move when the time comes. The key is buying at a good price. Just my .02 worth.

I bought a Squier PJ that was updated with Seymour Duncans. It was about $250 of of CL. Pearl white finish and no case,it still looks brand new.
Our bassist plays it at rehearsals and says it sounds great but is a bit too heavy for his liking. |
