Got this Deering Goodtime and a really nice case 30% off at a shop closing out sale. Very sad to see the shop go though. I've been wanting a banjo again just to noodle some basic stuff on, really enjoying it.

The Deering Goodtime Banjos are quality instruments that are excellent to learn on and even some pros like Mean Mary use one professionally. Enjoy!

True, SS Stewart were the Masters of banjo building, got my eyes on a few atm. Gibson Rb-250 and a 1890s SS Stewart Special Thoroughbred are in the mix, Deering does have some great great banjos as well.

Yes, similar to Taylor Guitars' "Frankenstein" joint before they went to the current scarf-type joint.

It is a finger joint like they use in paint grade base boards.

I'm aware of what finger joints are, I've just never seen one that looked like that. The only time I've seen finger joints that weren't really discrete were joints that had opened and been poorly re-glued. I was hoping that wasn't why the OP got a discount on his new banjo. That would make it not such a good deal.

Here's my Taylor finger joint. You can see there's a bit of a difference in this when compared to the Deering banjo as posted.

The finger joint is standard on the Goodtime. I'm interested in banjos & check in at banjo hangout from time to time, never seen any complaints about the joint.

Sorry to hear your local shop closed.

I own a Deering Solana 6-string (nylon classical style) built using the Goodtime template purchased new just before they terminated the model. The finger joint is smooth and strong.
