I live in Saskatchewan, in summer it can get as hot as 100 F/ 70's % humidity and in winter it gets to -40 F/20% area. I've never detuned other than longer term storage. That would take so much enjoyment out of it. I humidify my guitars in the winter, plus I have a whole house humidifier now which gives a boost. In the cold snaps I put them in cases with humidifier sponges. In summer the house doesn't get too humid anymore now that i put in an AC, but before that I just left my guitars as is, the high humidity sucks the tone though.

Anyway, the detune after each use is insane.

Well, the forum's collective wisdom appears to be unanimous on this one.

Should I detune the strings after each play?

Definitely Not.

Might even harm your strings annd/or string life.

Thank you everyone!

I'll just leave the guitar in standard tuning, watch out for the humidity level and keep my guitar in the hard case all the time.

That is the way. Humidity is the biggest pain to manage. Keeping it in case when not playing is the right thing to do. Get a humidity meter if possible too.

Do not detune after each play, especially with a 12-string.

I like to keep them tuned to pitch. But tune them often. especially in a climate where the temperature and humidity, have big swings.

Guitars need to be trained, so to speak. They need to be taught how to be a guitar.

If you detune the strings every time, The memory of the materials will try to go back to being a tree.

Think of a comfortable chair. In the beginning, it's just a nice chair. But after sitting in it for a long time, it becomes a match for you. If you go on a long trip. While you are gone. Your chair will try to revert back to it's original form. If it's been well trained it will keep it's shape.

Just as a guitar is bound into the shape it's in. It needs to learn to hold this shape. And, it needs to learn to hold this shape under the correct tension.

Not unlike you, learning to perform, on stage, under the stress of an audience. Tho more used to that stress you become. The better you will perform.

Man, I sound like the 60's.

Bottom line is. Keep it in tune. Tune it often. Play every day you can, for as long as you can.

No, don't do that. You just keep playing your guitar and keep monitoring humidity.

People keep reminding me to regulate humidity but seldom mention about the temperature. It can be s high as 35 degree in Celsius in summer and 5 / 6 in winter. I still don't know why but my guitars have no issue.

So to conclude, the most important thing is to maintain a stable humidity environment (around 40-60%). Your guitar should be safe then.

Right!
That's going to be all you really need to do Mushjoon.

Hi Mushdoon and welcome to the forum!

In my experience de-tuning and re-tuning can have a negative effect on the string tone and life.
