Default Christmas In Prison (John Prine Cover)

AGF member @AnneS did a lovely version of this back in April in the John Prine tribute thread, so apologies to both JP and her... Great song, though.

One of my favorite John Prine songs -- well done!

Thanks, and, yeah, one of the bigger gut-punches of 2020, but he left us a magnificent song collection.

Great job Keith! You did a nice job on the multi-tracked recorded -- sounds good and it's well mixed.

It's hard to imagine what it would be like to spend Christmas in prison, or anytime at all, for that matter... or I think of the guys spending Christmas out in the freezing weather during WWII during the Battle of the Bulge. My father-in-law, now passed away, spent Christmas out there. He was in Patton's 3rd Army... And one of my uncles was in the 101st Airborne and was out there holding the line through Christmas.

Things could always be worse than we have it now.

Enjoy the season Keith!

Thanks Glenn. Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to you & yours. (My father was flying bomber escorts out of England Christmas of '43 - "luckily" he got shot down before xmas '44 and so spent that one in a hospital in England, IIRC. Never complained about any of that or The Depression that [re/in]formed the family's life before all of that started! "Always look on the bright side...")

Oh that's fascinating! My father had wanted to be a flyer and signed up for the Army Air Corps but was washed out because of poor depth perception. He ended up being trained at the University of Chicago for high altitude weather forecasting and became a meteorologist for the Army Air Corps. My mother was in the Army Nursing Corps.

The greatest generation for sure...

Nice job Keith!

Was this done with a band or did you play and record each track?

No band here - another product of my sausage factory .

I hadn't recorded anything for Christmas in some time, and had an idea to do this ever since I heard it (here) last April, so sent a "guide/scratch" track to a bass player and dobro player I knew from an open mic where we used to go to and occasionally jam together. Their tracks came in (email/dropbox) while I was poking keys on my 2-octave MIDI keyboard ("idle hands"). I just mashed it together without re-doing my first take, but it fits my "back porch" style of mixing, and done just in time!

You did a great job with that. That's amazing.
