Default Claro walnut 00 spec/show guitar

Shooting for LaConner of next year i mix in a few spec guitars into the build cycle.

This will have a nicely figured walnut back and side.

My 00 guitars are inspired by the GIBSON L-00 but slightly smaller. They are a little bigger than the Martin 00 but with a larger lower bout.

Here is the internal bracing. The braces are capped with rosewood. I am finding that rosewood capped braces in a lattice configuration really give a snap to a back that otherwise might be lacking in overtones and sustain. I did a mango backed guitar with a cardboard like taptone that way once and it really brightened things up. This walnut is not bad at all, it would have the characteristically neutral walnut influence on the sound if braced traditionally, but it now resembles a rosewood back when tapped.

There’re are provisions for an arm bevel and cantilevered fingerboard extension.

The linings are Royal Paulownia aka the princess tree, a wood highly prized for its acoustic properties in Japan and light as a feather. The sides are laminated with sycamore and sycamore/spruce laminated blocks are on each end.

This set was a gift from Jamie who frequents this forum and has a keen appreciation for fine wood.

I'm looking at a year down the road. so 2024. I don't have time to do LaConner this year and I'm cutting down on the number of shows I go to. LaConner and BIG in 24 hopefully, if the producers will have me.

Default the rosette

I have some oak firewood limbs that have an interesting spalting pattern that I thought would make an attractive rosette.

a spalted oak ring

a spalted oak and B/W ebony rosette in bear claw cedar top

a little mineral spirits to bring out the color

I’m so glad you said this. Had you said something like, “My brother gave me this set” (after that Koa guitar episode) I would probably have done myself some sort of harm.

That’s really pretty, and the rosette is perfect.

Did I give you that oak firewood???

I think I have nearly exhausted gift wood from you, with one notable exception being that perfectly quartered set of cocobolo with the tasty sapwood. That will be featured soon, as soon as I get enough sandpaper to reduce its thickness.

You will be pleased to know the firewood is my own home grown oak. Thanks for the thumbs up on the rosette.

I thought I would try modified fan bracing on this guitar. I think that pattern has potential
