Default NGD: Martin Custom 00028

Thanks very much for all the advice in my last two threads. I’m pleased to say I am now the proud owner of a 00028.

This is a 1996 12 fret 00028. From what I gather the specs are near identical to the 00028vs, although I believe this was built before those guitars went into production so it just goes by 00028 Custom on the spec sheet. The neck is very chunky but I like it a lot, I’m making fewer mistakes when playing.

It plays beautifully and it has the tone I was hunting after but couldn’t describe. This guitar makes me want to improve as a guitarist - it excels when fingerpicked, but I’ve got a lot to learn when it comes to fingerpicking. I’m hoping by this time next year I’ll be able to do the guitar more justice.

In the meantime here’s a few photos and a video of one of my own songs (please forgive the mistakes at the start!). Really beautiful rosewood back and sides and the spruce top has aged wonderfully. I’m delighted and I am sure that this guitar will spend at least another 25 years with me.

Outstanding man! I'm hearing a little bit of Nick Drake in there. Oh, and beautiful guitar too!

Congratulations, Neil!

Wonderful guitar! It sounds great! And it looks great, like it has really been taken care of!

Good for you!

Nice score! Its a beauty and sounds as good as it looks.

The best part about playing your own songs is that no one has to know you made a mistake but you, as far as the rest of the world knows, you nailed it.

Cheers Glenn. It’s in remarkable condition for its age, clearly a very careful previous owner.

beautiful guitar right there! Can't go wrong with that one. Even if it does need a neck reset at some point, totally worth it.

Thanks! Fortunately can’t see it needing a reset in the foreseeable future, action is perfect.
